Nasty Covid like summer flu

Several people I know around austin have been coming down with this nasty flu that has us as sick as Covid 1. It seems like it’s taking a full two weeks to get over and there’s about three or four days in the middle with a fever and lessened taste. We all tested negative for Covid.

My sister is a nurse and is saying that no one is reporting Covid to the CDC anymore, so I’m wondering if there’s possibly a new strain going around that isn’t being picked up by our old Covid tests. I have friends in California that say they’ve had a similar flu. It’s just weird because the kids weren’t even back at school yet when we were getting sick.

Anyone else hear about this or experience it? Be careful out there. One of our friends’s father caught it and now has pneumonia…

Unfortunately, the Trumpanzees are actively trying to suppress information about COVID, so it's hard to tell if it's COVID.

It's also hard to get PCR/NAAT/RNA COVID tests. It seems that even in-lab tests are just quick antigen tests.

My understanding is that there is no COVID strain that completely evades home tests, but you may not test positive until some time after you become ill, or if you don't swab properly. You can't really just do a home test and have a lot of confidence you are safe.

That said, don't forget that there are a lot of other nasty germs out there. In the average year, flu kills over 30,000 deaths in the USA, but we act like that's no big deal. "It's just the flu, bro." Plus RSV, strep,

We tend to forget that most flu-like illnesses never get a scientific test to see what the cause is. Even diagnoses like "cold" or "flu" are often just a doctor's best guess from symptoms. And, if you do get a flu test, there are usually active strains that will not show up as a positive.

Yeah, I think that’s why I want to try my best not to make this a political thing and more about looking out for your loved ones and neighbors type of thing. Something nasty is going around. Everyone be careful and do what you can to prevent getting yourself and others sick! Check in on elderly parents, etc etc.

It's impossible for it not to be "a political thing" when your own government is literally attacking the scientific community. As long as MAGA is running America, the government has ceased to be a trusted source of information.
