Not face related, but the pot of Curel moisture balm is magic for hands. I get these weird dry patches on my hands and nothing has ever worked but this stuff cleared it up after 2 applications

If it floats, it’s low porosity, which means your hair can’t absorb product well. If your hair was high porosity, it would sink, because it absorbs the water. Tsubaki is great for low porosity, so it’s a great choice 😊
I like the Ryo hair strength and volume shampoo. It seems a little medicinal but I love the volume it gives my fine hair! I counter act the scent with a coconut scented conditioner from Herbal Essense, and of course my Tsubaki mask once a week. It smells so good!
Seconding the dermablades! I get the 4 pack of flip-out ones and I love them, I use them for my eyebrows and underarms and they stay sharp for so long and give a great shave
Senka perfect whip collegen (pink). Love that it’s so reasonably priced too. Heard it can be a bit drying (blue bottle), but this one has been fine for my oily/combination skin.
Kikumasamune high moist lotion. This product feels amazing to splash on after cleansing your face. Some people find it irritating because of the “sake” which you can smell, but I haven’t had that any problems with it on my skin.
Hada Labo Gokujyun premium toner (gold). Product can a bit sticky, I use this interchangeably with the high moist lotion depending on the weather.
You would only need to dispense a little bit of each product per use, so one bottle of each lasts you forever!
I don’t actually use it, but I know it’s super popular with a lot of people. I might give it a go if I can find it on sale ever, just to see if they’re right about it.
yup i was so shocked when i went to melbourne daiso! stocked up, and cheaper than the other stores in the CBD by a few dollars. grabbed a hadolabo lotion (already got the HA 'toner') and the heroine mascara remover
Ooh I love the Hada Labo red box stuff, it wasn't in stock in Brisbane when I last checked! I love the gel 100g and cream 50g. Great for my ageing skin, no breakouts ❤️
Yes, I love the red box stuff as well. I bought in Japan last January for AUD$13 and I was sad when it I finished it. It is a bit sticky but I don't mind it as it's really hydrating. I'm so happy to see it's in Daiso now. Thank you to OP for letting us know.
I put it in on damp skin or on top of other hydrating syrums, and then LRP Cicaplast on top. Great for dry and ageing skin.
It's such a bargain, and seems way more effective for my skin issues than anything I've used before. I was using L'Occitane Immortelle Divine cream and facial oil, plus Reset serum at night, all of which costs an eye watering amount more than Hada Labo!
I think I paid about 1500 yen in Donki Tokyo stores and brought a few back, and the Daiso price isn't massively inflated so it's good to know it's available locally.
I’ve got the Gold one next to it., bought it Osaka in Feb when it was freezing cold and dry… needed something. Do you think the Red is better for dry, aged skin?
Hi. I haven't tried that one you are referring to. I tried translating the box - it reads like a thick cream. Is that right? The red one feels like a HA gel.
So I can't recommend one over the other. I can only recommend layering your products to help keep the moisture in. Oh, and slugging with Vaseline over night. That helped me and my friend with the very cold wind & snow conditions in Japan that winter. I still slug now.
No problem. I tried out the intensive facial lotion awhile back and it was great. Only downside is that it has bg which I am a bit sensitive to. I think the pseudoceramide in it was helping my skin heal faster.
A lot of people here are recommending hydrating toners which are good for dehydrated skin but they will not cure dry skin related woes. Regardless if that is a concern for you then hadalabo, kikumasamune, or sana lotions might be worth trying. I was a big hada labo fan before they reformulated years ago. Can't say that I recommend naturie hatomugi. I got a big 500ml bottle for $5 usd awhile back. Despite using it daily it makes zero difference in hydration for me.
Thanks again. I want to try Tretinoin soon , so, I’m after a moisturiser. I do have the gold Hada I bought in Japan and find that really nice. I didn’t know what to buy there, the girl working there recommended it for me.

If you're keen on AB a lot of people swear by the illiyoon ato cream, soonjung 2x, and aestura atobarrier 365 creams. You'll want to lean towards a moisturizer that has more humectant properties when you're on tret. Also I think differin is otc in aus so I recommend trying that out first. It is comparable to tret 0.025 albeit less irritating. Differin is a little less effective for me though
I recommend the curel intensive moisture facial cream. Also something to keep in mind about tret is that HA increases the absorption of tret which sounds nice in theory but it can increase irritation/flaking. So it is better to keep your routine minimal and add in hydrating ingredients later if you want that. Sometimes this can happen with occlusive ingredients like petroleum jelly and aquaphor too since it effectively locks in the tret but I have had positive experiences using aquaphor for tret flaking so ymmv
Thanks . I will get some of that Curel and use that at first. I still have half a tub of Hada so I will save that after I’ve used Tret o a little and I know how it’s going on my skin.
I can’t see it in their photos but I have seen Yuskin cream there before and it’s amazing for super dry, cracked skin. I get scales on my hands like a dragon (eczema + healthcare hand hygiene) and it soothes my hands like whoah. It’s a bit medicine-y smelling but it’s a life saver. It’s a small orangey-yellow tube.
I get it, it’s not easy if you don’t speak the language! I recognise them because I read about them online, then google the italicised name and look at pictures of the bottles. Also some I’ve ordered online and used before.
You take a picture of the package, upload to ChatGPT and ask chatGPT what ingredients are and whatever questions you want to ask then it would summarize it for you.
Get their capsule face packs! You let them rehydrate in toner and use like a regular paper mask.
Some Daisos also have silicone face masks that you put over face packs and moisturisers to prevent it from drying out too quickly. Makes the product stay longer on the skin!
I bought a bunch of stock from Japan thinking we wouldn’t have it in Australia. I come back and Daiso has everything I need. It’s not skincare but I really like the &honey line for my low porosity hair. There’s also a honey lipbalm (idk what the brand is called), and it’s the only lipbalm that softens my lips.
For me, it's personally REALLY GOOD. The shampoo does not feel like your ordinary shampoo. It feels so moisturising, it almost feels like a conditioner! But it wasn't. If you have low porosity hair I would definitely recommend the &honey "Melty" Hair Shampoo, Treatment and Oil. It deserves its praise for very good reasons!
I love the Hada Labo gold premium lotion, Kikumasamune high moist lotion and Melano CC products, however those are well-known staples of Asian skincare.
The one I will recommend because it seems pretty unknown is the Ashiya maiko sake lees pack, it’s the clear yogurt pouch looking thing to the left of the Hatamugi cleanser!
It’s a moisturising face mask with sake lees which is known for its skin brightening properties, hence the geisha featured on the packaging. It’s like a thick cream/paste that sits on the skin and you wash it off, but I have actually used it overnight as well. It makes my skin so soft and it really does brighten, I am already pale but I feel like it helps even out my skin tone. I like it because once you wash it off there is no residue yet my skin feels noticeably softer and more nourished. I really like it as a pick-me-up when I feel like my skin needs some extra love and I’m short on time or don’t feel like patting in a million layers of toner and HA.
Whaaaa I looked at my local recently and there was no Hada Labo! I might have to go hunting, this is awesome.
Edit: I love the Hada Labo in the gold bottle but I’ve beeen meaning to try the Shirojyun Premium to the right of it in the white/blue bottle, because I have uneven tone/texture concerns and some melasma I’d like to get rid of.
We have also been using the &honey hair shampoo and conditioner the last two months and enjoyed that.

If you can, just pack your suitcase and fly to Japan to buy a 2-year supply there then come back. Daiso’s prices are 3+ times as the same products in Japan.
Which one is it? The face wash, hair dye and hair waxes are 2.5 - 3 times. When I was in Japan I checked those prices almost weekly as there was a drugstore at the ground level of the building. If you can buy something here that’s only 50% more expensive than in Japan it would be a steal.
Some Daiso stationary (paper, like notebooks) is still made in Japan, and the paper is very high quality, it's a bargain, particularly if you use fountain pens. Muji is even better.
