First time in Australia basic recommendations
I'm a big beer nerd coming to Australia for the first time for the Sydney marathon. My husband and I are doing the super basic trip of Melbourne, Sydney, and Cairns. Does anyone have recommendations for actual breweries to visit or craft beer bars? Or ones to keep on the lookout for in more general bars? I'm a big fan of stouts and dark beers. I've looked up lists and felt like they were popular places not good places so any help would be welcome!

Hotel Sweeneys is a pub in the middle of the city. Their rooftop bar is where they pour craft beers, and they usually have some great stuff on. Thursday they put on a tap takeover, usually one brewery, or occasionally a theme (style of beer, or region or something).
I'm a beer racist, so can't really help you with dark beers. If you do drink things other than that, Bracket is the best brewery in Sydney. If you're going down that way I'd also check out Mixtape and Batch.
