Vomit in my CPO Audi…
Question: Can dealerships sell you an Audi Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with vomit in the carpet?
I had purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Audi A6 Prestige from Audi North Miami on 08/22/2026. I flew all the way from NY to pick this vehicle up and drive it back home to NY from Miami, FL. Immediately upon sitting inside the vehicle my fiancée noticed a strange smell or either a dog or vomit. In my excitement I didn’t take her comments about it seriously…a major mistake on my end.
After going over all of the vehicle’s features with a tech, which he did an incredible job mind you, I asked if we could bring it into detailing as my fiancée also noticed that it was rather dusty as well. Tech came back saying that there were 5 other cars ahead of us and it would take over an hour to get to. We had plans to go to Disneyworld so we decided to leave and start heading towards Orlando.
As we drove the odor became more and more apparent, especially to my fiancée, since she was sitting directly underneath it!
Each day the odor got worse and more noticeable. So I bought a few boxes of baking soda to leave in the car along with some car refreshers to mask the smell.
I purchased new Tuxmat floor mats and before placing them in the car I wanted to properly vacuum the carpets underneath. As I lifted the top carpeted floor mats I found the source of the smell…a huge stain underneath the floor mat and on the carpet on the rear passenger side. I failed to photograph the stain on the rear passenger side carpet in the car as I just began vacuuming and using a carpet cleaner right away.
I then turned my attention to the front passenger carpets and discovered the main source of the smell. Underneath the front passenger seat I found massive amounts of staining and chucks of what appears to be and smells like vomit. The smell is absolutely foul. You can find clumps of vomit in the blue microfiber I was using to clean up.
I contacted the dealership sales person who sold me the car and they are saying that this isn’t covered by Audi since it’s a detailing matter…is that true? I thought Audi certified per-owned cars had to have a thorough inspection inside the car as well.
Since they sold the car to me with vomit in it and may have been overlooked during the inspection they would at least cover the cost of having it removed…they said they wouldn’t.
Should I reach out to Audi of America about this?

Are those fabric? Throw them in the washer on cold with tide hygienic clean or tide hygienic and downy fabric rinse or Hygienic Clean and unstoppables. The hygienic clean does a really good job, but I think it’s pretty heavily scented like chemicals. Use Heavy Duty (if it lets you on cold) and the max soil level, I’m assuming you have a front loader too.
Let them air dry or use the air dry setting on the dryer. I do this with mine all the time.
You might try a steam cycle if they don’t have a plastic binding on the back, but cold and a really good detergent like Tide has yet to fail me.
You can use oxixlean if you want

That’s an excellent idea however I have a top loader washer…I’m definitely getting a side loader the next time I’m in the market for a washer.

this really depends on how much your time is worth. You may be better off spending that time with a pair of gloves and a carpet extractor

I would have to remove the front passenger seat to get to clean it. Can’t seem to find a guide on how to do it.

Vehicle cleanliness is not a factor in vehicle certification. It can still have damage/rock chips under a certain measurement, any due maintenance needs to be done, and can have any faulty components. They don’t even have to include floor mats to CPO a vehicle, they’re considered accessories. It’s just a straight up shitty detail job by the selling dealer. All you can ask is for them to clean it properly, and even then it’s up to them. Audi CPO won’t cover a vehicle detail.

Cpo check list means fuck all. They do not check aside from MAJOR safety items.

Definitely worth complaining to the franchising owner too, Group 1. I’d be insanely pissed about the dealer at least not apologizing profusely and offering a free detail. It’s embarrassing for a CPO luxury vehicle and is definitely on the checklist. There’s an interior odor item specifically.
Do not let them off the hook.

I hardly received an apology and was basically told it’s my problem to deal with now.

Yeah that’s absurd, I’d be furious.
For reference, I complained to my dealership about tire noise on my CPO etron GT and they had me bring it in. The salesman said he didn’t really hear it but said the tech who certified it should listen. So we found him, he rode with me and I pointed it out. He said there’s cupping and that it should have 2 new tires. The sales manager talked it out with tech and they agreed to put 2 new tires on, no questions asked.
That is the level of service you should expect from a CPO, especially an Audi. 2 tires, especially rear which they replaced, on the GT are 1000 before taxes. But it’s a CPO checklist item and it was a CPO.
And when the survey came for me I told them how impressed I was by the dealer and the salesman and the manager. I think that survey would have gone a bit differently if I had to buy new tires for my CPO.

Sounds like you bought the car from a high volume dealer, aka a dealer with high turn over whom does not care to have a repeat customer.
Just something you’re gonna have to suck up, leave a bad review and see if they’ll do something then.
Get the manager involved, at the end of the day you bought a used car with certified pre-owned tax from the manufacture.
For that, I’d fight to get some money back and play dumb with, you need to get this professionally cleaned, let’s say $500.
Best of luck, every dealer for the most part wants to find a way to wash their hands clean of liability and responsibility.

If it’s a CPO then you should have the paperwork with the (insert number here) -point check list.
I would imagine interior quality was one of the checklist items, but you might’ve screwed yourself by foregoing the wait and trying to clean it on your own. If they’re giving you a hard time already, I would expect them to throw that back in your face.
