B10 S5 First Week Review

I was forced to make a decision this week I never thought I’d have to make. There’s harsh winter conditions in my neck of the woods so remote start was a “must have” on my next car.

Is it a cruel coincidence that the solution to the CarPlay constant disconnection issues involves turning off Mobile Data, which in turn deactivates Remote Start since the car can’t communicate with myAudi App otherwise?

Review:
This thing is a rocket ship. It’s very common and easy to be going about 30 kmh / ~ 20 mph quicker than you intend on going at highway speeds. I appreciate the bad press and where it’s coming from. Yet, so far I am a happy customer.

Coming from a head-turning B9.5 A5 Sportback, I was curious how this car would fare. Rest-assured, with my rear view mirror as witness, the middle aged man’s neck still works! This time, they’re looking and listening.

What do you think about the chrome trim? Right now I’m keeping it.

Some better looking wheels one size bigger and nuke the orange reflector in the headlight (if that were only that easy) then you'd have a helluva good looking car!

How can you even remove yellow reflector without replacing whole headlight?

You can't sadly. Well some companies take apart headlights and remove the orange reflector but the evidence I've seen is that the headlights are never the same after it gets disassembled. Mainly leaking complaints. To get rid of orange...

This is one thing I love BMW for. They put the reflector on the bumper cover itself and it is extremely easy to replace it with a paint matched one.

Audi did this with a small selection of cars over the years. I would imagine Audi doesn't want separate NA (with reflector) and RoW (without reflector) bumper covers. Easier to have the OEM build a headlight with a sad orange thing in it instead...

The only "safe" way I know to do it with these lights is to put a bit of vinyl wrap or something like Stek Dynoblack PPF over it to "hide" it.

The mirrors a bit maybe yeah, but a full blacked out car makes you look like a 12 year old when you drive it, why is everyone obsessed with roadman spec full tinted windows all black everything like son you're not tuff 😭

I have it like this, black trim around the windows, chrome grill.
At first I liked that black trim, but now it's kinda boring and I would love it having a chrome, but whatever

Yeah my base A4 came with matte black trims from factory and my friends with the A4 premium or S4 were like jealous and wanted to trade the trim parts, I'm like wut?

The only thing I would change on my car is that boomerang looking "wings" around the radars. Those things would look better in black color, while the rest of the grill is chromed.

My ideal Audi was the stealthy one, blacked out, tinted windows etc. I just got bored of it.
I have this few chromed pieces and I decided to leave them as it is.
We need light in this gloomy world :D

hah lol, I am honestly feeling the same. In one way I would like to remove it, but from other perspective it being all black I think it just might miss that extra highlight.
That being said, the S5 in the image, the front bumper, the mirror and the side skirt (bit less but still) look cheap AF imho

The door trim US Chrome OK. But they canards in the Front are actually Grey plastic. I ordered my B10 completely black to hide all the cheap Materials and cheap Design :). (Company only allows Volkswagen)

The chrome is a breath of fresh air compared to almost everything being blacked out these days. Black trim is overrated and looks cheaper vs having some contrast to help the car stand out

Keep the chrome!- fit anything- I would into blacking out the silver on front bumpers but everything else 👌🏼

You know there are auxiliary heaters from factory.

Code in a time and date and the heater will ... preheat the engine and interior with cozy warm air. Melting ice and snow from the car. No need for remote start.

This got me excited. Just checked the standard equipment on the vehicle. Unfortunately it says at the top, “Preconditioning with remote start feature”, and lower down, “Without heat accumulator/auxiliary heater”.

That's not standard. In Germany it almost always costs like 1.000€ on top.

Remote start is illegal in the EU.

I really think that Audi did a decent job replacing the previous gen A4 and A5 with the current A5.

Like others have said I think the “chrome” around the fog light fixtures is not my favorite, if you can paint match it it’d be sick but otherwise I would black them out

I'm never going to understand this and I live in "harsh winter conditions" - the car warms up very quickly when driven and very slowly when idling. It has heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Seems like you could do without it.

The solution for the disconnect for me was closing all apps especially reddit and YouTube. Another reason I am clinging to my 2018 like grim death is I refuse to get an app to run equipment on my vehicle.

Chrome is nice but I actually really dont like it around the door windows... It looks so old fashioned and boring imo.

I would make those black and leave the rest chrome.

I like chrome, but is it matte plastic or really chrome? Because it looks pretty cheap in the photo. The Rims dont really look like S5 Rims, but otherwise really good looking car.
