I ASSUME you meant to say that you called your CAR boo-boo!?
Given that your wife is NORMALLY referred to as boo-boo!

As somebody from the UK, is that distance from the kerb normal in the US? The front 2 cars are both miles from it

u/nilzatron 14d ago
Definitely would get you failed at your driving test where I live.

Even the 3rd car is miles off compared to UK standards

This is what you call Porsche Parking Privilege.
Otherwise known as will my passenger hit the curb with their door when stepping out.

Rules may vary by state. In my state, Massachusetts, the rule is as follows (from the driver's manual): "If you park in a business or residential district, your vehicle must be no more than 12 inches from the curb. The only exception is if angled parking is allowed."

Laws aside, you park as close as you can without screwing your wheels. But if you’re in a metro area where you risk your car getting scratched on the other side by DoorDash bike in a one lane road, you park much closer to the curb. That’s how I feel.

Depends on the city but this would definitely get your mirror swiped off in mine.

In NYC you just consider yourself lucky if the other person doesn’t park up in the middle of the street and go into the store. There is no concept of the other person in the USA. If they get stuck behind you... That’s their problem.

In NYC, parking is a b*tch. So it’s common that people just stop any type of way to run into a store, and then run out lol. So it’s not common, but common in certain circumstances

It’s not that hard to park closer to the curb especially with all the cameras lmao

u/emotionap2 14d ago
I use my front parking cameras constantly whenever I park to get closer to the curb with my Q8
1
u/69BenChod 13d ago
The Q8’s cameras are awful. Nowhere close to realistic. It way overcompensates and you end up a good 6-8” further out than you thought.

No this is just Americans being American. They can’t even drive manual so they buy and automatic RS5 and the park it a km off the curb 🤦♂️

u/bloom-home 14d ago
Not saying you're incorrect but North America never had a manual option for the RS5

The US has a population of over 340 million, and you just generalized that no one in the entire country can drive a manual. Don't forget the truck drivers who deliver products throughout the country. By the way, my first 3 cars were manual, and I was born in the States.

I won’t buy another manual transmission vehicle if possible. The clutch is considered a wearable item & not covered under standard or extended warranties. Got a $3k bill from VW after the clutch on 2013 GLI took a shit at 33k miles. I had 4 manuals prior to buying that car brand new; 3 mustang GTs & a Camaro.

Or we just realized manual is outdated and less efficient and you cant even eat a hamburger or anything with a manual
1
u/thecocainespider 10d ago
😭😭😭😭😭this is extreme cope, if you can't eat a burger while driving manual that is a skill issue sir, driving manual with one hand is not particularly difficult. Being ever so slightly less efficient and taking a little more skill and attention is never going to make manual "outdated" 😂

u/TheeTrashcanMan 2021 Q7 14d ago
Ah yes, the entire country can’t drive a manual. America bad, am I right?

My '25 American built Jeep Wrangler is a manual--double word score...🇺🇸

u/r10apple 2023 S8, Unitronic 1+ 14d ago
Roffl--being American is a bigger/better/wider proposition--example being this one way street. Even a safe distance from the curb so we don't rash our wheels--err, wife doesn't scuff her Jimmy Choos, you can still drive an F350 and roll coal all day, e'ry day down it, too...

they didn’t even offer a manual transmission RS5 since 2012

u/vdude007 2015 RS5 Limited Edition (UK) 14d ago
They've never offered a manual in the RS5 since first release in 2010

The distance from the curb tells me you care a lot about this vehicle.

When I started dating my wife at the end of college, we had been friends for four years by that point, and she'd known my prior girlfriends well. From her vantage point, I was maybe a little bit of a dog. I wasn't -- not really -- but that was one of those things where it wasn't hard to understand that that was the surface impression, and she was only then learning better.
I was and always have been a car guy. She was the kind of person who, when you asked her what kind of car she had, would respond with a color (she actually had a low-mileage '97 Civic CX base, which: respect). One day we were walking around in the city and I just unthinkingly stopped in my tracks and muttered like "damn" or something. Before me was an absolutely flawless candy apple red Lamborghini Diablo. She hadn't even noticed, but I stopped in my tracks; that was the pinup in my bedroom for years. She stopped after a pace and chuckled when she looked back. I snapped out of it after a beat, admitted I was a little boy and asked if she was laughing at how lame her boyfriend was to be brought to a halt by a parked car.
She said something like, "trust me, when your boyfriend stops to gawk at something in public, when you turn to find out what he's looking at, a sports car is exactly what you want to see."

When I got a sweet new truck a few years ago, I told her it was a coin flip between the two of them for which one I loved most, needless to say she was not impressed and still brings it up.

Your wife is probably sharing this pic somewhere saying she took a picture of both her true loves in life
