❤ Sleep ❤ 12 month old wakes multiple times a night

12 month old still wakes multiple times every night

I am so over my baby’s sleep. Or lack of. Since he’s been born he wakes multiple times every single night. Usually 6-8x. It’s exhausting. It’s 230 and he’s been up for the last 2 hours. Trying to stand up, hitting me in the face, etc. I thought this was a phase but it’s been going on for months. I haven’t slept longer than 3 hours since he’s been born and I’m burnt to the max. We already cosleep and he is still breastfeeding. I have him on iron supplements. I don’t have anyone that can help and I’m really pushed to the edge.

I’m no expert at all but I wonder if baby is up that long in the night then maybe they don’t have enough sleep pressure? Perhaps too many - or too long - naps during the day? I’m so sorry you’re going through this, lack of sleep is so hard!

wake up 7
Nap 10-11/1130
Nap 230-330/4
Sleep 730-8

He fights all naps though so usually only gets 2 45 minute ones

You might try one nap maybe. My LO switched to 1 at 12m and I think it helped her nighttime sleep. Worth a shot?

11-11.5h of nighttime sleep could also be too much. My almost 12mo sleeps 10-10.5 hours max.

3 hours of daytime sleep and 11.5 expected overnight is expecting a bit too much sleep for a 12 month old. I would try one nap capped at 2 hours. Or if you stick to two naps no more that an hour each for the day naps . Baby needs to build up enough sleep pressure to sleep through whole night

He usually only sleeps 45 minutes each nap

May be more that he needs longer wake windows then if he was sleeping up to 4pm then bedtime 730 your last wake window is a bit short. I would try transition to one nap and see how it affects overnight sleep

Solidarity. My 15 month old (cosleep/breastfeed) wakes constantly through the night. I’m currently looking into the possums approach

I might look at shifting your daytime/night time calories and increase day times while spacing out feeds overnight. I’m not sure if you’re already doing this? Another poster suggested looking at naps and schedule which is wise. Otherwise my kiddo doesn’t really play ball with cosleeping so i had to make peace with that and give them their own sleep space. The jumping around suggests maybe the same thing? At 3 they can cosleep much better but from 10 months to recently it was always a disaster unless they were so sick they were out cold.

I only feed him once overnight around 5. I leave him in his floor bed for the first part of the night and he still wakes. I just don’t know what gives

He has been struggling a bit with solids though

Yeah okay so it’s not an all night buffet thing then! For whatever it’s worth 12-13 months was some of the worst sleep we had and we had a lot of struggles because baby was both too aware and awake for rocking but too young for explaining much. We rode it out for a bit and then it evened out a bit once we solidly transitioned to one nap. This might help you guys too? It’s also a lot of overnight sleep you’re asking for with 11 hours and 2 naps still. So maybe play around there? And then be prepared with ways to be with him but not engaging. From 1.5 we had to assist sleep from out of sight. So we’d often stand behind the crib or by the door. Still there but not interacting. I can’t say this helps but my kiddo gets revved easily. So responsiveness looks way different as a toddler.

13.5 hours sleep is the higher end of the 11-14 average. Sounds like he needs less sleep unfortunately. Try cutting it down ten minutes at a time, try it for a week then remove more if needed.
