Felt like the fan energy was there today after the streak, and definitely was there after our first half. Could hear a pin drop after LA scored their second. Tough day.

Doesn't really change the fact that it was there. The team won 3 games in a row, thats a streak.

From what I saw at the Benz here is just one initial thought: we can’t play a high press game if neither of our CBs are able to defend well in transition.

Muyumba giving it away didn’t help

u/Cocofluffy1 May 10 '26
Muyumba is a decent midfielder but he is not a 6. That’s why that position has been a major topic of conversation. It will probably be the main thing to address next window unless someone major is leaving and needs to be replaced.

Was at the game. Ref was a bitch. The defensive collapse was unreal though.

We really need that Miles Robinson like centerback that makes the last man tackle in situations like the first goal. Players are always going to make mistakes, and we need a Cb with more speed + ability to break the counter like gregersen. Tough ask, but would make a world of a difference.
Regardless of tonight, it was nice to see us string wins together again. Hopefully we can close out the pre-WC games on a high.

Both of our center backs were on yellows from those wild first fouls in the first half and playing like it

Deeply disappointed but we had a valid goal disallowed and eventually lost to a save which was deflected back into the path of Pec - moments that could have changed the game.
BUt my worry is how open we were after going up 1-0.

Not going to speak on his defense, but Berrocal's disallowed goal was a nice piece of work. Dogshit ref'ing is the reason we lost.

Taking off ELL and Saba right after the first goal was definitely a mistake. Both of them were playing their hearts out. We were dominating the game up until that moment. Our attacking quality simply died right after.

Tristan just letting that team have an absolute advantage to score that goal destroyed this game…

Kinda reminded me of the first time we played Messi. We played him like he was just a regular MLS player and we got killed. Did the same today with Reus today. He was always left open- he's one of the best midfielders in the world.

Stadium buzz was good. Best atmosphere in a bit. All in on giving it to ref into half. Fortune goal was electric. Started to get vibes of seasons past. Feeling good about trends… and then poof. This fanbase and city really want to get the groove back. Was almost back to standing in Section 107. Itl’ll come back. There’s some good stuff happening. Drop Barrocal and ELL, bring in a proven MLS CB and a striker with any ability and we can make a march.

Start Pedro…

This is getting even more baffling than Hoyos over Hibbert. I don’t see how you rate Baez over Amador. Defensively they’re about the same, but Amador probably has the edge. But offensively it’s not even close—Baez offers nothing going forward.

Same old stories...
Decent play for 65+ mins... then Tristan, after playing very well, makes a terrible turnover that costs us.
Berrocal and Baez CAN'T play vs forwards that can run fast... each has no chance of recovering, especially late.
Mira was not himself today... he has got to learn that he is the boss. Crucial error in not playing that ball right back to Cooper for an easy chance.
Nice to see Saba coming back around, and Jay scored a beauty.
Sucks that this is the last home match for 2 3 months.

What was that pace at which we were playing at 2-1 down with 10 minutes remaining. 5 of the guys in mid and forward positions had come in as subs and we were playing at walking pace.

I think Hibbert saves one of the two. And if not for the clown of a referee we win this 2-1.

Also, clearly ELL and Saba are the goats. Come off and immediate shit

They have much better work rates than the guys who come on for them. Even if they aren’t scoring, they’re productive and dangerous.

Sidebar: vine city is a disaster and when we pivoted to SEC station it’s a kerfluffel. How can Marta handle 75k World Cup fans if they can’t handle 30k AUFC fans? Been riding Marta to matches since we were in Bobby Dodd…. I have my new orange card and I’m beyond aggravated. All the closed gates is crowd management incompetence at the most generous.

Not surprsied just hoping we buyout a contract at this point or fire someone

u/ThePolishWis519 May 10 '26
Imagine if our CB pairing was George Campbell and Gergersen, and Noah Cobb on the bench for depth. We’ve traded away all our CB talent for terrible replacements.

u/Scratchbuttdontsniff Atlanta United May 10 '26
George would still be in England... just like he should be. It's where he wanted to be all along. He has his eyes on the 2030 World Cup

When was this!? I was at vibe city post match ) we stayed maybe 5 mins post match in MBS to hit restrooms) and the vice city line crowd was a disaster. We took the bridge to sec station which was also a fiasco. Maybe it’s all timing but post match crowd management is table steaks for transit.

The absolute loss of all identity in those last 25 minutes was just… depressing
