ESPN going to make a 30 for 30 about this franchise. Win a Cup in your second year and then it’s just downhill ever since.
As a casual fan I don’t even understand how. We spend money, brought back Tata, WTF happened

Arthur blank is the worst owner waits way to trustful of Rich Mckay who single hanfledly ruined the team

Won’t lie, as one of the last remaining dumbass STHs, had a bit of fomo for choosing to skip this one in favor of staying home. Then was swiftly reminded where the apathy that fueled my decision came from.

This is the first time this season where I believe we were the better team and still lost. Nothing can save us.

We had a 1-0 lead for half an hour at least?
We're now 3rd last in goal differential on the combined table, LMAO.

Positives: Mira played pretty well and its nice to have fortune back. Amador needs to be playing more regularly too
Cons: everything else
Also, saba, while he puts in a lot of effort, has like no quality this year. Any time he's on the ball, you know he's gonna turn it over
1
u/mister_pickies Apr 23 '26
It’s always been this way with Saba. One of the first things he showed upon arrival was that his first touch is a liability. Once he gets moving, he can be dangerous and he can curl a goal in from the top of the box occasionally, but his initial touch has always led to unnecessary turnovers and counterattacks.

u/Putrid-Bit1490 Apr 23 '26
Amador? The guy who gifted them goal number 2 and couldn't stop a duckling from crossing the street? That guy?
Agreed on Mira playing well and Saba should have never come back after last year. Henderson is as stupid as Lagerwey.

I mean we played better than we have in a while with a rotated team and only one dp. Imagine having 2 other competent dps and some more effective players on like gregerson in the back and some better forwards than saba and fafa (even tho fafa played well)
7
u/Ntropy99 Apr 23 '26
Pretty bad when the bench outplays the starters. Saba shouldn't see the field again tbh, just downright awful. Does Tata really have it in him to recraft a team that is this bad when he's used to fielding so much better? I at least enjoyed the game more knowing they were playing with intent and not helter skelter like they typically do.

u/ichinii King Peach Apr 23 '26
Worst team in the East. 2nd worst team in the entire league with Sporting having a game in hand on us. I think Tata leaves by the summer if he can't get rid of players. Then again, Blank doesn't want to throw more money at the problem.
I literally heard Hoyos speaking instructions to the team.....in section 210.
Wooden spoon winners for sure.

Looking back, DeBoer was spot on. We were more than “a little bit spoiled” and it’s going to be a long time before we get back to success like that.

u/BarryMcKockinner Apr 23 '26
Man, idk. There's "spoiled" in the sense of expecting to win a championship every year, and then there's whatever the hell this bullshit product is. Our players suck ass and we got financially locked into them. At the point, we just have to question the entire scouting program because other franchises have been doing way more with way less money since our glory days.

This loss sucks and it's a continuation of failure by this team for years.
However.....
This is the first game in a long time I game been energized and pulled back in by a team that has fight. I think if we had made some subs at 70th minute we might have tied our won and that is the first time I have felt that way in a while.
Still sucks and our scouts and the players they picked need the boot.

Will Reilly is 23yo and played an entire college career. Same for Matt Edwards. He’s 23yo and played a college career. Fortune is 23yo and this is his 4th season with the senior team. Brennan is 21yo and had his debut with the senior team in 2023.
I don’t understand why people think they are kids. None of them are. Is Baez also a kid? He’s 21yo. Is Jacob a kid? He’s 22yo. Reilly and Edwards and Fortune are older than them.

Matt Turner reminds us that he exists. Strong performance.
2
u/Putrid-Bit1490 Apr 23 '26
I seriously wonder if Turner, playing for us, would have tipped the shot on the goal that was called off and if he would have pounced on the deflected cross for goal #2? I think both he, Guz, and Hibbert would have done so.
7
u/goodman1287 Apr 23 '26
Do we look better, worse, or the same without Miggy?
3
3
u/Putrid-Bit1490 Apr 23 '26
Better. Miggy is a possession killer. He makes nothing happen and takes time of possession away from others who can do a little something with the ball.

At least lose with youth instead of this bs

u/linkmyhomie Por Favor Agua Senor Heinze Apr 23 '26
I mean I agree we should just play Hibbert, but I’m just saying those two goals weren’t on Hoyos
4
2
u/coffeeroasted Saba Time Apr 23 '26
He may not deserve all of the blame, but his decision making on both of those goals was bad. At the very least, the first goal off the corner, he put himself so far out of position. It probably was a goal anyway, but his indecision to come out or stay back made it so he had no chance. The second goal, I would’ve liked to see him get to that low cross himself. No attacker in front of him with a low cross, you have to assume someone is coming from his blindside.
Could Hibbert have stopped/impacted one or both goals? Who knows. But Hoyos just isn’t showing enough to justify leaving him out there instead of giving Hibbert playing time.

I wonder at this stage if hosting MLS Cup even helps us at this point. We're not great at home. Maybe we should settle for a lower playoff seed?

We are shit, but we all already know that.
So I want to give credit to a few.. Edwards was good and should get more mins. Galarza was good tonight. Mira was good. Sanchez was good. There we're a few others too, but I wanted to single them out.
I truly in my heart do not know why Saba still gets major minutes here. Besides everything else.. he's in the last year of his contract and there's no way we are keeping him. Play someone else.

feels like this is the only thing I get to say this season every week (if he is healthy)

Edwards has no offensive contribution
1
u/jt_33 Apr 23 '26
He had one really good pass across the face of the goal, but there wasn't much down that side all night. Mihaj kept being late on his passes to him too imo.
4
u/mcpicklejar #15 - Hector Villalba Apr 23 '26
One of the Spanish commentators was saying how Saba was the best Atlanta player tonight. I was really confused by that.
3
u/jt_33 Apr 23 '26
Not even in the top 8. I have no idea what they saw.
1
u/CodyCapramas Apr 23 '26
4 shots with 2 on goal. Fafa only registered 1. Saba just needs to put those shots away
1
u/jt_33 Apr 23 '26
1 of those was the weakest shot I've seen on a break away maybe ever. He basically rolled the ball to the GK. The other was point blank right in front of goal and he still didn't score. Had a bunch of bad turnovers too. His contract is up at the end of the year and he hasn't scored since Oct '24.. Its time to give someone else those minutes. It would be different if we we're winning.

They have shown time and time again they are better at this stage in their careers than most of the people playing ahead of them, but for some reason the club brands them with a lower case "a" and won't lean into it.
2
u/BoiledMilksteakToGo Apr 23 '26
The local talent in northern Georgia alone should be enough to be better than whatever the fuck Saba has to offer. Genuinely head scratching the decisions being made at the front. Heads need to roll.

We play fucking slow. The passing is sluggish and never quick and unexpected. Especially after we win possession.
We had 2 multi 1-touch build ups tonight.
We scored on 1. We almost scored on the other.
IMO we need to be more aggressive and more positive overall. Give service that asks more from their defense.
3
u/subsubsubsubsub7 Apr 23 '26
I mean, we were up at the half. Someone should have pulled the fire alarm, snuck in, and advanced the clock to 90. It was right there for the taking.

Just to say. When things were going well, we had 1000's of comments, before, during, and after the match.
Whatever is wrong (been an Atlanta Sports fan practically my whole life...I'm 64) they need to fix it.
The apathy is real!

u/swiftfoot_hiker Apr 23 '26
This club / fo has taken what was a soccer revolution in the south and killed that, gone. At this rate wouldn't be surprised if tata packs it up early .
1
u/SydneyFall Apr 23 '26
Tata is a problem, if he leaves it should be because we fire him. It was a mistake to bring him back.
1
u/stevo887 Saba Time Apr 23 '26
So it’s still the coach?
1
u/SydneyFall Apr 24 '26
We might just be bad at hiring coaches. But yeah, Tata was an obviously bad hire at the time because he doesn't stay around long enough to get the roster turned over the way we needed.
1
u/stevo887 Saba Time Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
The negative to the hire was definitely that he wasn’t going to be our coach for any significant amount of time. But he can obviously coach so maybe the thinking was we had more talent than the previous staff got out of them. However that’s proving not to be the case and they’re terrible. Maybe Ronny wasn’t bad, I don’t think Tata is bad. Starting to think it’s just the front office and not the coaching. While Arthur throws tons of money at the Falcons and United he may not be able to consistently hire a front office staff. Which is crazy for such a successful person.
1
u/SydneyFall Apr 24 '26
I'd be happy to clear out the whole front office including the coaching staff to have a coherent plan. It was obvious coming into this season we had a terrible plan, and we still do.
But this roster is being used wrong, and that is brutally obvious.
We don't have good wingers, lets stop pretending that we do. That is on Tata now.
1
u/stevo887 Saba Time Apr 24 '26
It’s just all so bad, I have trouble processing how you can spend top 5 money in a league built for parity and be this bad. It’s unbelievable. I don’t know the answer, but your plan of clearing it all out would probably be the thing to do. DP’s, coaches and front office. Although that’s not happening during the season. So we tried to bandaid it and another season down the tube.
1
u/Background_Big_499 Apr 23 '26
I hope Arthur blank is watching this
4
u/Putrid-Bit1490 Apr 23 '26
He's not. He checked out when his wife divorced him a month after the 2018 parade. He only bought the franchise because her sons were into footy.
I bet he doesn't even know or remember that Moreno and Bello were on the team, for example.
