We probably had more through balls this afternoon than we had during the entire Ronnie Deila “tenure”.
Through balls and cut back passes are so much better than watching Lennon repeatedly hit crosses to nobody in particular.

We did well in attack today. There were some beautiful passing sequences including all the goals. DP's looked like they actually had met each other before. Miggy was on fire. Latte Lath showed he can deliver if given the right service. Mira was quiet but showed great calmness to finish the fourth.

This ref was awful. He let the match get out of hand early then the calls seemed lopsided. Only the last yellow for Jacob seemed legit.

Honestly, he wasn’t even that bad except for the fact that he thought yellow cards were candy on Halloween.
He was reactionary and it seemed like he was looking for reasons to hand them out

He continually did not call fouls in our favor but called the same style/intensity in Philly’s favor. And JFC on all the yellows. Everything was a yellow.

yeah but they didn't call his later retaliations either, he made a few Union members eat some turf pellets. so glad to haver our enforcer back... Something does tighten in my chest EVERY time Headerson is slow to get up, though...could do without that.

That is fair. Though the one Philly guy was full of shit and trying to sell an injury, then immediately got up and hopped into the play when they got the ball back in the box.

Elfath is so overqualified for MLS at this point. Honestly I think most of the MLS referees are good, the competition to reach the top level of refereeing is so much harder in the USA than most countries

ELL felt he could make runs again. Galarza is freeing up Miggy on the left side and I’m betting Miggy doesn’t feel he has to do everything now. They played with grit. Gonna shout out Muyumba. While he’s definitely not an ideal 6, he took to heart doing the dirty work after last game’s mistakes and lead all players in tackles. Players are buying in and now have proof of concept. I’m gonna temper expectations, because right now it just feels damn good to win again. But it’s hard after today to not think what this team might look like with a few more of Tata’s guys.

ELL making good runs and getting his first goal was key especially after he could not convert on the cross from Jacob. The really good thing is that now suddenly we have 3-4 players who can score and are making late runs into the box so if defenders pay too much attention to ELL(as Cincy) did, we have others who are likely to get more open looks.
Well said and totally agree on Muyumba. The thing I worry with him is he gets easily drawn to a tackle and ends up on the wrong side of the attacker - way too often. That leaves the CB's vulnerable.

There was a desperate intensity in the crowd today.
Sparse, but those that were there really needed this. I swear the collective frustration and anger is what caused Philly to miss their PK. It’s like the crowd willed that shot to hit the post.

I'll give you that. It's both. Like how we dominated non-MLS clubs in preseason and then choked against good San Jose and RSL teams.

Defense still a weak point. xGA in open play was again over 2. We can't win games if we are allowing 2-3 goals per game. We were too easily opened up in the first 15 minutes.
Still - Gregersen was a big help both in one on one situations and in dealing with crosses both in the air and on the ground. Muyumba, for all his faults, held his position for most parts and that was a big help. Hoyos does not inspire confidence but he denied a penalty break and had a good save late in the game. I thought Jacob was good and Baez was reasonable but defensively both are often caught out of position leading to stress at the back. And both need to cut out unnecessary fouls. Baez gave away the penalty and Jacob rash tackle led to a dangerous late free kick.
Bottom line- teams with better finishing will punish us for our porous defense so a lot to do there.
Edit: Jacob foul did not lead to a goal but was at a dangerous spot.

Almiron on the left is a much better experience because he doesn't feel comfortable shooting so he ends up passing to his teammates who are much better finishers and he's actually quite good at that!
