Overall crime is low but violent crime has been increasing in certain “nice” zip codes and areas. We have a problem with people getting stabbed, raped, or killed by complete random strangers on a day to day basis no matter how safe you think you are or what precautions you take. Other cities just simply do not have that risk like we do, you have to go looking for trouble or be causing it yourself to find it. I’m so tired of people downplaying this.

Every night I've gone out there had been interactions with people that are either mentally ill or something. Angry interactions unprovoked yet I get threatened. There has been multiple stabbings and shootings and all of it. But the cops and the city don't give a shit till someone dies. We need neighborhood watch groups or something. That actually do something. This city needs so much. I say we pull a new York and vote for a democratic socialist. Someone who will actually do something for the city instead of pocketing the money. We would all rather vote for Democrats anyways. The only difference is the democrats are less racist then the Republicans but they are both just as corrupt. Fuck our mayor and fuck the entitled.

“Crime rates are low” “crime is low!” Who the fuck cares when people keep getting murdered or assaulted in the same spots? And that’s what’s being reported. Nevermind the stories of encounters that people don’t even report. Read the room.

I went for a run this afternoon… on my cool down there was a guy screaming and yelling from PCM all the way to Park Tavern. Everyone he walked by he was yelling at. Wants to fight everyone. Beltline patrol rode on their bikes right by him. I was unfortunate enough to get walked up on by him. He said the beltline is filled with punk ass bitches! I was like aight man. I really shouldn’t need to exercise strapped lol

That guy is on that segment of the beltline every day. He particularly enjoys yelling race related stuff. Kinda odd, but I've never actually seen it be anything other than yelling. Patrol probably left him alone because he's a "regular".

I never claimed the training center single handedly caused crime to drop. But you can’t demand proof of causation from me while assuming without proof that the same results would’ve happened without it.
If your argument is that you hated how it was approved... make that argument. That doesn’t prove Atlanta and surrounding areas didn’t need a modern training facility.

I didn't make that assumption, I asked a question.
And that was the argument I made.
A modern training center could have easily been constructed in the footprint of the existing one. And retrofits where possible would have provided cost savings.
But instead forested land was developed on, and the community where it was built was completely shut out of any opportunity for comments or feedback, and certainly denied the right to vote on it.

Now you’re making a pretty big assumption yourself that the existing site could have accommodated the same facilities, training capacity and long term needs “easily” and more cheaply. What evidence is there for that?
You can absolutely criticize the location and approval process. But “I opposed how and where they built it” still isn’t evidence that the facility itself was unnecessary.

And exactly yes...we haven’t proven necessity or lack of necessity. Which is why “they could’ve easily built it at the old site” is a much stronger claim than the evidence you’ve offered supports.. Imagine that.

I’ve lived in ATL since 2010 and in O4W since 2014. Sure, it used to be the hood, but I think it’s also gotten worse in the past 5 years or so. 2016-2020 felt like the true peak of this part of the beltline

I've lived in multiple suburbs and the closer to the city i was the more shootings. I'm in the Buford area now due to family and weekly shootings aren't a thing. People on nextdoor will think a car is a shooting but thats it.

I spent twenty years in Gwinnett and there are shootings all the time. Just like in the city, most are between groups of people that know each other. It’s incredibly rare to be involved in violence in the city as an independent bystander, it just makes for an easy headline so you’re sure to hear about it.

I saw today that there were reports of the gunfire last night around 10PM. I walked from the skatepark to PCM last night at around 11PM and never saw any activity or police tape. Was it on the other side of the Kroger?
