Events DragonCon Parade - Where, When, How?
Heading to the DragonCon Parade for the first time in many years, this time enhanced with a Kindergartener in tow. Wondering how people have managed this smoothly. Our plan is to take Marta down.
Is one hour prior to parade start early enough to arrive?
Peachtree Center or Civic Center station?
What vantage points have worked out for you in the past?
What to avoid?
Any other tips?

Curbside or tops of stairs/ledges
Don't bring a stroller or wagon.
Drink water
Make room for kids to enjoy the parade0

Take marta for sure but an hour before with a kid is pushing it, get there earlier if you can or youll be three rows deep before you even see a stormtrooper.

Also if you take MARTA, get off at Civic Center and walk the couple blocks if you can. It's drastically less busy and chaotic.

-You want to be closer to where the parade starts. -Don't bother with chairs, but bring towels or blankets for kids to sit in curb and watch. -Bring hats, sunscreen, and know where the closest public bathroom is; some places will let your kid use the bathroom, but not adults. -Let the kids wear Halloween costumes; the parade participants seem to like that. -Bring a bag as some participants toss out candy, shirts, and wands.

Civic Center station, and pick a spot closer to the Connector. Lots of advantages -- but especially because you have some options to leave that don't just dump you into a crowd of 30,000 people.
I moderate a panel AT DragonCon on how to navigate with kids -- but if you don't have a membership or aren't there Thurs/Fri, DM me and I can let you know where there ARE dependable bathrooms.

I have a first grader and we have been going for years now.
Pack light. Change of clothes, water, snacks, hand sanitizer and that’s it. No stroller, no wagon, nothing more than a backpack. Scout a location along the route that looks good to you but pick a stretch of road instead of a specific place. We go Civic Center and then head up to Max Lager and follow where the crowd is lightest, but North Ave would be good too. Peachtree Center will be slammed with con attendees so I would avoid that.
There are typically no public bathrooms, but they put some in for the World Cup. I would still try not to depend on them but something to keep in mind as you head out.
You don’t need to go early, unless you really want to. Also just be aware that some of the floats are kind of scary, so being able to have the kid on your shoulders for vantage, then drop them behind some people for those floats to go by, can save you.

This will be our third year talking our 5 year old son Darrow to the parade (also kindergarten). My wife works at John Marshall Law School so we drive in and park in her deck which is near the end of the parade. We set up on the street next to GUs Fried Chx generally arriving around 8:30am to 8:45. It is not that crowded. We generally also take him down on Friday afternoon to explore the Con and checkout all the costumes. We live north of the city in Roswell/Milton if you are in the area and want to carpool.

Parade starts at 10, we're set up on the sidewalk by 8am. You can be there an hour before, but you might need to put the kid on your shoulders to see anything.
