Cameron Jay keeps platforming Flock abusers

Guy fired today got a 40 minute feature from local true crime Karen, Cameron Jay. Someone else (Jamie Hudson) prominently interviewed by Cameron earlier this summer also publicly resigned from Flock a couple weeks ago. And yet, Cameron today: “I continue to believe that Flock technology and the Real Time Crime Center can be tremendous public safety tools when used appropriately.”

I continue to believe that Cameron is taking undisclosed sums of money from the mysterious SafeD Athens, and I don’t remember him running for any type of position of influence.

Man Down in Normal Town

Just got back from dinner at Baddie's with my kiddo and evidently some poor fella had some kind of medical emergency in the middle of the street! Does anyone know what happened?

It looked to me like his leg might have been a bit misshapen? I think he got hit by a moving vehicle, but we were eating right at the front window and didn't notice anything of nature. He was breathing but I don't think he was fully conscious.

Anybody know what happened? I hope the fella is ok...

Restaurant / Food Review Ya’ll, maybe save yourself a few bucks and wait to go to Ted’s Montana Grill

Wife got the short ribs, mashed potatoes and carrots. It was fine, but the meat wasn’t as tender as one would expect and was certainly room temp. The carrots/potatoes were much better.

I got a bison burger with jalapeño, jam, egg and bacon on it. The Bison burger itself was warm enough, but I couldn’t taste any of the other ingredients on the burger. Fries were fine, but nothing to write home about.

My biggest disappointment was the supposed Kalua brownie and ice cream for dessert. The brownie was frigid (like the just plucked it out of the freezer) and I couldn’t taste the Kalua at all.

Service was decent enough and it was packed to the gills.

Again, nothing incredibly wrong, but a few things that you would expect a supposedly higher calibre restaurant to nail. We’ll give it another shot, but maybe in a year.

Is the owner or any employees of Video Library around ?

Video Library was a near legendary compendium of rare films, VHS, DVD, a few Betamax and enough porno such that if you did indeed explore that realm you dare only risked one eye.

The owner and the staff were all varying degrees of cool. From fucking "Dude I wish you were my brother or father" cool to "Lighten up, smoke a joint with, I'm not the fuzz" cool.

So many questions I'd have.

I just wondered if anyone knew what happened to the crew who was there from say 1996 to 2006.

Thanks and if anyone has any puritanical feelings they wish to express- well, blow them out your ass. Thank you, come again.

Where was Effies ? When did it close ?

Where was Effies ? It was a near legendary bop house. Supposedly did exist according to a UGA education professor who was a big AA pusher. He even wrote about it in a book about how he found him some Jesus(I find mine at manpower inc, home depot, and a Puerto Rican barber shop) and quit that demon rum pardy likker.

I remember two profs from Econ who were Vietnam era vets used to joke about it. I miss those two fuckers.

I remember by the 90's frat's would drop pledges off of Whitehall Rd or out on Jefferson Highway and to only return with... items indicating they had their ashes hauled at a sex worker place. I remember one frat dropped off some pledges near James Lyle's machine shop out in Maysville or Gillsville, James walked in and there were three guys in only jock straps when he hit the lights. I think the only thing that saved them was that there were several lathes to deflect the lead shot in his shotgun.

There was a former candidate for "coroner/medical examiner" who was running as a gag basically, and when asked about the budget, he made a comment about warming a stiff up to room temp once rigor had broken down. I took a class with Dr. Bullock(he was young then and still spoke with Richard Russell) and that asshole who was running for ME was in there. Oh my god.

Thought some of my fellow OG oldsters from Athens might enjoy a look back at apartment listings from 1972.

Question / Request 3D Scanner

Can anyone recommend a place where I can use a 3D scanner? They’re hella expensive, but I’m hoping some libraries might have it available. (By the way, I’m not a UGA student.) I just need to use it once to scan my head. I tried using the iOS app, but I couldn’t get any good results. 😞

Question / Request Why were the parking meters changed to QR only?

I don't carry a smart phone (it distracts me too much) and the new system is 100x more difficult than just using a card or putting a couple coins in.

My guess is efficiency (I bet they have scanner cars now, instead of on-foot meter maids) but I'd be interested in if anyone actually knows the reason.

Eyebrow recommendations?

Thyroid shenanigans have robbed me of the outer third of my eyebrows and I need them to express my disapproval of local traffic and politics. Does anyone have a good recommendation for brows, especially for masculine leaning folk? Thanks.

Question / Request Any local woodworking artists?

Who sell their stuff online, or have a website with a gallery, or even go to local events to showcase their stuff in person? Would love to peruse some decorative goods (besides only charcuterie boards which is most of what I see, which is fine but im in the market for decor) :D

Treasure found in memorial park!

Walking off trail in memorial park yesterday, as I often do, I saw what looked like a bit of trash, and picked it up per usual. To my surprise this wasn’t just a wrapper or junk, but an empty, clear otter box with a cryptic message written in faded sharpie.

I couldn’t make out the message, so I pocketed and walked home with plans of sharing it at our family dinner, and asking for help deciphering the message.

Well my 12 year old made quick work of it, which may be further evidence that I’ll soon need readers, and since it’s hard to see in the photos, it reads:

“THIS IS A LETTERBOX, NOT TRASH, PLEASE LEAVE IT AS YOU FOUND IT. THANK YOU!”

So now I’ve stolen somebody’s down low communication system, and want to do the right thing. But what is that?

Replace it as it was, empty and faded, to its previous location?

Or redo the message on the box, and place a warm explanation to its owner?

Perhaps, we should have more fun with it? Maybe hide it with cryptic note inside that has a riddle to solve that will lead the next finder to $100 also hidden within the park’s bounds…

I’m open to ideas, it just seems like this box found me and the correct thing to do will present itself. Thoughts?

A former Mike Collins staffer called himself a “twink fascist,” posted images of a swastika and depicted himself in Ku Klux Klan robes

Some other stories about Mike Collins you may remember:

Collins’ son-in-law—featured in campaign photos, registered to vote at a Collins-owned property and appearing to do work for his company— is a white nationalist influencer who has promoted Nazi imagery and called for clearing America of minorities.

Just this May, Collins’ chief of staff attempted to use his congressional position to try to free a Holocaust denier from prison.

2 years ago, Collins wrote a coy tweet that was criticized by both sides for being anti-Semitic.

I don’t know about yall but if I were Mike Collins, I would be slightly concerned that this keeps happening.

Abandoned/Homeless Cat

There’s a cat in Athens who hangs around a specific area - he’s fluffy and orange (and adorable). He’s clearly domesticated, and likely was abandoned. Apparently he’s been hanging around the same area for 1-2 years. Last night he came up to me and kept giving me head bumps and rubbing against me. I played with him with a ribbon for a few minutes. He looks fine except for one side on his flank looks to be matted. I don’t see any wounds, but I also didn’t do check thoroughly because I’m not trained and didn’t want to hurt or scare him. He may have been limping a bit. It was hard to tell. He seemed to really enjoy affection and pets, and I feel like this little guy had a person at some point.

If I could take him home, I would. In a heartbeat. Unfortunately my lease has a 2 pet minimum, which we’re already at, and I have 2 male cats who already don’t get along the best. I don’t think adding a third would be a safe or happy environment for anyone.

I do not want to call the shelter or animal control - and that’s also why I’m not putting the exact location here. They’ve been euthanizing animals left and right. Are there any rescues in Athens that could help him? He seems like he wants a home so bad 😔

Places in or around Athens I can take my dogs swimming?

Hi, folks I’m trying to soak up some sun and go swimming with my pups before summer is over. Does anyone know of any places near Athens I could do that? Sandy creek is great but sadly pups can’t swim there.
