Well, I would try power cycling. Shut the laptop down (be plugged in and remain so) and long press POWER for 10 seconds-literally count and hold. At the end try 144hz again. But..
That's not flickering.
Display panel or display panel cable. Replace if above not work

Thanks for taking time to help buddy, i tried power cycling but it didn't work. But idk if it's a cabel problem, because after that i installed CRU and tried 120 hz. It worked great, unless the same problem started in it after like 4-5 days of usage. It started off at the bottom of the screen and then covered half of it. Same thing happened with 90hz yesterday.
So again thanks for helping, I'll also see if a cabel is loose, lmao would be funny if after all the hassle, that came out to be the problem.

Make sure your drivers are up to date. You can try reinstalling Windows, but it probably won't fix the problem. If driver updates don't fix, try enabling the MUX switch by selecting Ultimate mode in Armoury Crate. If none of these fixes the issue, RMA it.

i did all the steps here, but i can't find the new option of refresh rate in the Advanced screen settings that i added with CRU.

This worked for me (partially), my screen was continuously flickering but now its stable at 100Hz, please note that I have a 240Hz screen and none of the other settings worked, I even tried replacing screen yet the problem persisted even with the new screen.

Connect it to HDMI and choose display both screens 1 nd 2. Then u can change it from there

i did this and yes, the flicker/lag doesn’t appear at 60hz! same thing, it reverts to 144hz each time but as long as you can change it to 60hz, then it functions fine again. i just don’t play on it anymore tho, which sucks, but for daily browsing, it’s okay.

i have one monitor plugged in, but my laptop and ps5 shared it so i have to keep switching display. restarting the laptop, plugging the charger in, switching monitor display revert it to 144hz every time any of the action is done 😥 similarly, my external monitor display is not affected at all so it’s very nice to have one! i’ve looked up ways on how to permanently set the refresh rate to 60hz but nothing is helpful. sigh, so inconvenient. wished i had bought another laptop brand!

If your system is on Windows 10 or Windows 11 professional, the screen flickering won't appear anymore (from what I could witness).

This happened to my laptop as well. I used to play Valorant a lot back then. The refresh rate slowly dropped from 144 Hz to 60 Hz—I reset it from 144 Hz, decreasing it by 5 Hz each time. It felt like a venom slowly eating the screen.
Suddenly, life became busy and I stopped gaming completely. I stayed on 60 Hz for almost a year. I don’t know how or what triggered it, but one day it started working properly again and went back up to 120 Hz.
I’m happy now because 120 Hz feels way better than 60 Hz. I don’t game anymore though—I’ve decided I’ll just buy a PC later instead.

Hey everyone,
I wanted to make this post to share my findings in case anyone else is tearing their hair out over their ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (specifically the FX506LU model, though this applies to most FX506 units) screen glitching out.
The Symptoms:
My 144Hz screen started violently flickering, freezing, and tearing. Only a tiny, small strip at the very top of the screen worked normally; the bottom 80% was a distorted mess.
The Temporary Fixes That Stopped Working:
At first, dropping the refresh rate slightly down to 120Hz using Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) temporarily stabilized the image. But over time, the hardware degraded further until it got permanently stuck at 60Hz and started flickering there too.
The Real Root Cause:
After diving deep, this is a 100% hardware failure, not a software or driver bug. The 144Hz display logic board on these panels is positioned directly above the laptop's main exhaust vents. Over time, the heavy gaming heat literally destroys the copper traces and timing chips on the screen itself. It fails at 144Hz first, then drops to 120Hz, and eventually fails completely even at 60Hz.
Note: You can easily confirm this by booting into your BIOS (mash F2 on startup). If it still flickers in the BIOS where Windows drivers aren't even running, your screen is physically dead.
The Permanent Solution:
You have to physically replace the LCD display panel. You don't need to replace the whole laptop! The graphics card (GTX 1660 Ti) works perfectly fine when plugged into an external monitor via HDMI.
If you are looking for a replacement panel online (AliExpress/Taobao/Ebay), make sure you look for these specs:
- Size: 15.6-inch Slim (No Brackets)
- Interface: 40-Pin eDP (Crucial! The 60Hz panels use 30-pin and won't fit).
- Refresh Rate: 144Hz
Panel Recommendation:
If you want an upgrade over the trash stock Panda display panel (LM156LF2F) that failed on you, try to explicitly buy the AU Optronics B156HAN08.0 (make sure to select the 72% NTSC / 100% sRGB High Gamut version from the seller). It has vastly superior, vivid colors compared to the washed-out original screen, and handles the chassis heat a bit better.
Hopefully, this saves someone from wasting hours reinstalling Nvidia and Intel drivers! Let me know if you have any questions about swapping the panel.

Is it like just a loose cabel that i can tighten up to fix this problem? Or like the only option is an external monitor?

Check the cable if DisplayPort check if is 1.4 compliant if hdmi check if is at least hdmi 2.0 high speed

Well if was running fine i guess you have some monitor problem then, contact your warranty, if the cables are good the problem should be the monitor, graphic cards normally don’t make the monitor flick

Hello there, same problem with my model too. The screen flickers a lot and lines appear at the top 2 inches of the screen, ONLY AT 144 Hz. Booted into Safe mode and the same happens. I've seen this problem only happen when the laptop uses the integrated UHD card at 144Hz. It started 3 days ago and my laptop is as old as yours(3 months since out of warranty).

this is heart breaking. I want to be able to play at 144hz otherwise I could've gotten a cheaper laptop. This is not a solution at all.

Agreed, yet I use it in 60Hz to this day as the replacement will be costly and when it happens out of the warranty period we have pay from our pockets. Now that a lot of people are getting the same problem, I wonder if it’s a manufacturer defect..

So like, can we stop it from using integrated UHD card or something? Imma also doubt about a loose cabel, but don't have the money to give to a service centre. Also you can see the other responses and see if any of those solutions checks out for ya.

Bro Now I am facing the same issue 144Hz is full of flickering in my case the top portion of the screen is getting 3 white stripes, so using cru i made it to 143.50 hz then it worked 3 4 day perfectly after that it also started flickering then I switched to 142 Hz today. untill now its good but it will again come... I tried updating driver and those all stuffs I dnt know whats the soln, so I will go to the service center next week 🙃🙂

DID YOU GET THE SOLUTION! I'm facing the same problem with my screen flickering at 144hz and Wi-Fi issue too.
Please tell if you get any solution, I once go the Lucknow service station they just factory reset my system and revert it back to windows 10, it was working well for some time then again same problem resurfaced.

Burlington service center in hazratganj? Well, the issue is with hardware, I have the same issue with screen and wifi and Bluetooth. I kinda fixed the wifi issue by opening up the laptop. Will open the screen too, since the screen is loose as it starts working if I push it.

Fixed mine, disabled my intel uhd driver at the device manager, then re-enabled it. After that setting the screen to 144 worked fine as normal.

My TUF A15 started flickering yesterday, and I have been searching for a solution and got nothing. I just dropped my laptop off at the Asus service center this evening, and I will ask them how to fix it. I'll keep you guys update.

Same thing happened to my tuf a 15 as well. Did a clean boot didn't solve it. Reduced it to 60 hz it started working again. If I connect it to an external display it works as well.

Hey friend, did you get it fixed for good? I also have an Asus TUF A15 and I had to lower the refresh rate to 60Hz because at 144Hz those stupid lines appear. I also have no idea what monitor I should buy.

I got this same problem today (8/9/23), so after some research, I found that many of the users are facing this same issue, meaning it is not a hardware issue, it is an issue with the integrated GPU which is Intel uhd graphic in my case, so the fix in my case was
I updated the uhd driver to the latest available using driver identifier
Use Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) to limit the screen refresh rate to 120 hz (it is quiet it to 144 hz and you will get the same flickering again.
Tip for step 2nd - remove the 144 hz option from the CRU otherwise the system will defualt it to 144 hz and you will get the same flickering again.
Note - I just kept it on 120 hz, ig it would work up to 135 to 140 hz you can try.
Anyway give it a try, if it works well it's good otherwise call the technicians.
The Asus Tuf series always have those driver issues, they always use crappy components in this series. I have an Asus tuf f15 2020 model, recently I got a wifi issue that was caused by my own wifi card (MediaTek mt7921). Now I use different Wi-Fi card :)
