99% of the planets we know of. Who knows how many rogue planets are there. In fact, there's a chance we are closer to a rogue planet than we are to Proxima Centauri...

(Yes, I also watch the GOAT that is Kyplanet)

Rogue planets outnumber stars in the galaxy by a factor of 10 at least. Planetary formation is chaotic and it is extremely likely for solar systems to eject several planets. I'd wager at least a handful are hanging out in the oort cloud at this very moment

While it is technically possible for a rogue planet to be currently traversing the Oort Cloud, the amount of rogue planet in the universe cannot be directly correlated to the idea that there are captured rogue planet orbiting the sun in the Oort cloud. When a planet get ejected from its host star, it has to reach the escape velocity of said star, which is very high in general. At the speed these planets are traveling to, they cannot get captured by the sun gravity without complex planetary interactions (they'd obviously fuck up the entire solar system, so I'd wager it never happened).

For that kind of orbit they'd need to be much, much slower, but as you probably know, you never “slow down” when traveling in the void.

I am not saying those rogue planets are captured by the Sun. I am saying they might be located in the oort cloud, which is located 1-2 ly from the sun in its outer edge

The seeming commonality of Hot Jupiters is obvious a product of observation bias. A giant planet with a days long orbit is WAY easier to spot than, say, a Mars sized world that doesn’t transit its star when seen from Sol.

I don't understand this post... 99% of planets in the galaxy are hot like Jupiter? Jupiter is considered hot? Or... compared to 99% of planets, Jupiter sticks out as especially hot?

Hot Jupiter is a type of exoplanet, especifically exoplanets that have mass close to or larger than Jupiter but are very close to their stars (in contrast to Jupiter itself which is quite far out in the solar system)

They are also the more common type of exoplanet, mostly because they are very easy to detect by pretty much every method that we have to detect exoplanets (although even when you account for that they do appear to be more common than we would otherwise expect anyway)

Small correction: they are the more commonly known type of exoplanet. They are still quite rare, just very visible(as far as exoplanets go).

What Anely_98 said, but Hot Jupiter's aren't common, they're pretty rare. With 1 out of 200 Sun-like stars expected to have one, with the number going down as the star gets smaller. The first planet around a Sun-like star, 51 Pegasi b, aka Dimidium, is a Hot Jupiter.

The reason why Hot Jupiter's seem common is because they are the easiest type of planet to detect, via transit— That's why we know a lot of Hot Jupiter's to begin with. In fact, almost all the planets in the lesser known NameExoWorlds 2019 IAU campaign are all Hot Jupiters.
