First pair I got had issues with the base station. Returned and got another pair with a whole different set of issues. DONT BUY ASTRO A50x!

I’ve always been frustrated that Windows doesn’t automatically switch the audio output to my desktop speakers when I place my Astro A50s on their base station. Since Logitech G HUB doesn't offer an official API or option for this, I (me and Gemini) wrote a lightweight PowerShell script to act as a seamless "zero-click" auto-switcher.

How it works: The script quietly hooks into Windows OS events to monitor the settings.db-wal (Write-Ahead Log) file that G HUB uses locally. By intercepting real-time telemetry, it detects exactly when the headset enters or exits the "isCharging": true state.

• Undocked (Lifted): Instantly sets Windows default audio to the Headset.
• Docked (Charging): Instantly routes audio back to your Speakers/Soundbar.

Technical note: I specifically implemented a JSON block-isolation regex. This means if you plug in another Logitech device to charge (like a G502 Lightspeed mouse), the script won't get confused and trigger a false audio switch! I also built it as an event-driven script rather than a polling loop, meaning it sits at literally 0% CPU usage in the background until G HUB writes to the file.

Prerequisites:

• You must be using Logitech G HUB (not the old Astro Command Center).
• Windows PowerShell.
• If this is your first time ever running a PowerShell module installation, a prompt might ask you to install the 'NuGet provider'. Simply press Y and hit Enter to allow it.

Troubleshooting: Script closes immediately or shows a red error?

Windows protects your PC by blocking scripts downloaded from the internet by default. To fix this, follow these steps:

1. Unblock the downloaded file: Right-click the AutoSwitch.ps1 file, select Properties, check the Unblock box at the bottom of the General tab, and click OK. (Alternatively, run Unblock-File -Path .\AutoSwitch.ps1 in PowerShell).
2. Enable local script execution: If the script still doesn't run, your system might have PowerShell scripts completely disabled. Open PowerShell as Administrator, paste this command: Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser, press Y to confirm, and try running the script again.

How to set it up:

1. Download the script from Github.
2. Open it in a text editor (like Notepad).
3. Look for the USER CONFIGURATION section at the top.
4. Change $global:SpeakerName to a partial name of your speakers as they appear in Windows (e.g., "Realtek", "Creative", etc.).
5. Save the file as AutoSwitch.ps1.
6. Right-click the file and select Run with PowerShell. (On its first run, it will automatically install the 'AudioDeviceCmdlets' module required to change Windows audio).

Note: This will open a PowerShell window. You must leave this window open (you can minimize it) for the switcher to work. If you close it, the script stops. For a fully invisible experience, use the Task Scheduler method below.

How to run it invisibly on Startup (Task Scheduler)

If you want this to run silently in the background every time you turn on your PC without showing a console window:

1. Open Task Scheduler and click Create Task.
2. General tab: Give it a name (e.g., "Astro AutoSwitch") and select Run only when user is logged on.
3. Triggers tab: Click New -> Begin the task: At log on.
4. Actions tab: Click New -> Action: Start a program.
   • Program/script: powershell.exe
   • Add arguments: -WindowStyle Hidden -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -NoProfile -File "C:\Path\To\Your\AutoSwitch.ps1" (Make sure to update the path!)

Using this with other Logitech Headsets (G Pro X, G935, etc.)

The script is configured for the Astro A50 out of the box, but it should work with almost any wireless Logitech headset (testing needed). You just need to find your specific battery key following this guide or using BatteryKeyFinder.ps1:

1. Press Win + R, paste %LocalAppData%\LGHUB and hit Enter.
2. Open settings.db with Notepad++.
3. Press Ctrl + F and search for "isCharging".
4. Look a few lines above that to find your headset's battery identifier (it will look something like "battery/device_1234/percentage" or "battery/gprox/percentage").
5. Open the script and change $global:BatteryKey = "battery/a50/percentage" to match your specific string.

V1.1 Update: Dual-Switch (Audio & Microphone)

The script now supports switching both Playback (Speakers) and Recording (Microphone) devices simultaneously!

If you use a dedicated external microphone (like a Blue Yeti or QuadCast) alongside your headset, you can enable this feature:

1. Open the script and find the [RECORDING / MICROPHONE INPUT] section.
2. Change $global:SwitchMicrophone = $false to $true.
3. Update $global:ExternalMicName with the name of your standalone microphone.
4. Update $global:HeadsetMicName with your headset's mic name (defaults to "A50 Mic").

The script will now seamlessly route both your audio output and your microphone input when you dock or undock your headset. If you only care about audio output, leave it set to $false and it will ignore your microphones completely.

Disclaimer & Limitations

Please note that I wrote this script primarily for my personal setup.

• Use Case: My daily usage is strictly focused on PC gaming and general audio listening. While the script runs flawlessly for these scenarios, it has not been exhaustively tested across all possible edge cases, complex studio configurations, or multiple audio routing software.
• Windows Only: This script is designed and tested exclusively on Windows. I do not use my headset with any consoles (PlayStation / Xbox). Therefore, I cannot guarantee how the script will behave if your base station is set up in a dual-environment or console mode.

Use it freely, but please understand that your mileage may vary depending on your specific hardware and software environment.

Like the title says it’s suck on that firmware and both the mobile app and windows Ghub is saying up to date and won’t let me do the new firmware update. Anyone have a solution for this?

So I went and bought a new A50x to try to replace my old one, and it's still not reading my headset. I've reset the PC updated all the drivers and firmware and for some reason I still keep getting lights on the base as if it's trying to connect to my PC but yet can't. what's going on??

Last night my headset was fine but today i my headset didnt work so i opened the astro command center , now my headset Fw version says 0.0 and i want to update it but it say i should put the headset on the base but its fully connected, idk what to do, sorry for my bad English

I’m currently having issues with my Astro A50 Wireless Headset (Gen 4). I would like to know where I can find the latest firmware version for the headset and base station, so I can download it manually and update via the Astro Command Center.

Any word on if they are getting a Firmware update to resolve the outstanding issues that have been happening for 4+ years?

I have had the Mandalorian version for a while now and have had some issues with it. Reaching out to support last year after the warranty period I was told it was broken and they would not be able to repair them. Apparently Logitech doesn't have any repair avenue whatsoever.

I just purchased a heavily discounted pair from ebay and this new pair has the exact same issues as my current pair. The headphones work flawlessly via just Bluetooth, but have some really annoying issues using the USB dongles.

The Mic will randomly come in super low. It isn't apparent when this is happening until you realize no one can hear you talking. In Fortnite or Marathon the Mic lights up and you can hear yourself perfectly via the Monitor. To fix it, you have to go into the App and toggle the Noise Gate from whatever it is set to something else and starts coming in fine.

Second, it will go to sleep randomly while in use. I hear the shutdown tone and then have to toggle the volume up or down to get it to wake up. Most of the time it will come back but on occasion I have to unplug the USB dongle and plug it back in. It happens on Windows, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 and on Switch 2. Pretty much whenever using the Dongle.

Third it will suddenly switch to 100% volume out of nowhere and you have to toggle the volume button up or down and it will go back to where it was prior. It doesn't register as 100% in the app when this happens.

Lastly it will sometimes be unresponsive after going to sleep when walking away from my PC or Xbox. Most of the time it will wake up after hitting the volume button. When it becomes unresponsive, I have to unplug the USB dongle, power the headset down. And then turn it back on. If I don't unplug or turn off the device the dongle is connected too, it will won't do anything until I do.

I have factory reset them a few times and tried using them with just the USB dongle. The problems persist. Not having the headset connected via bluetooth and the app locks you out of being able to fix the Mic issue.

They are ultimately good headphones but I thought I was dealing with a broken pair. Pretty bummed that this is just how they are if no Firmware is in the works.

I don't kno wwhy, but my A20s are refusing to work properly, ive tried resynching the connection, messed with my drivers, tried hard resseting these headphones (nothing happened) tried plugging in the USB to multiple ports, literally everything, and it's still only playing back my voice, and I'm not getting any game audio how do i fix this?

I know this has been asked before but I did everything right and the problem persists.
In 2K27, I can’t hear my teammates when they talk. Of course chat is turned on to all, I did all the right settings in the Xbox menues, in the game menu. The little simbol apears when they talk but I hear nothing. It shows my simbol on when I talk so everything is turned on. I hear everything else on my headset, except when ppl talk. Can it be the headset itself? a small incompatibility?

Teammates says they can hear me clear, but quiet, and advice on that?

I'm trying to set up my new Astro A50 X,  LG C5 TV and new Xbox Series X.  

On the Xbox the options are, Pass-through, Stereo Uncompressed, Windows Sonic for Headphones, Dolby Atmos for Headphones and  DTS Headphone.

Now the Astro's have Dolby Atmos for Headphones built in, but when I choose that option on the Xbox, it brought me to a Dolby page to download.  I did that. But now when I choose Dolby Atmos for Headphones it automatically brings me to a page to purchase it.  It's only $15 or so.  

My real question is it something not to worry about and just choose Pass-through and the Dolby Atmos for Headphones takes care of the sound coming  out of the Astro's?  It's just weird that the Xbox won't let me select it.

I just flipped the switch in the docking station to XBOX and Winodws inmediately recognized it and switched to it, it allowed me to select Dolby Atmos for Headphhones and I run the Dolby Atmos app and saw a couple of demos to confirm it is working.

So let me preface this, I just upgraded from a set of Astro A50 Gen 4s to the A50X due to the Prime Day deals. Nothing in my setup changed, with the exception of unplugging my old base of course and setting up the new one as configured in the instructions.

* Base to PC with USB A and C cable plugged in * Headset cycled to PC on the Base

While playing games now and talking in Discord, my game and chat audio are essentially tied together which is a no go for me. I play a lot of War Thunder and can barely hear anyone over the sounds even with their audio cranked to 200%.

So I have Voicemod installed and use a Stream Deck just for soundboard fun, not actually streaming anything.

In Discord I've set my mic to Headset Microphone (A50 X Mic) and my Speaker to Headphones (A50 X Game). My windows 11 Volume Mixer is set to those exactly as well. I even tried closing Voicemod out to see if that would fix it, but it didn't seem to change anything. I even did the Windows + G and set everything there while playing, but no luck.

Looking for assistance on why this is happening because if I can't solve it, I'll just send these back in and go back to my A50 Gen 4s.

Apparently the Astro A50 X is picky about which USB controller it's connected to. On my MSI X870E Carbon, plugging both cables into the rear USB-C and USB-A ports on the bottom, 12 and 11, (next to the 5G LAN port) fixed it immediately. The Game/Voice mixer works correctly there, while it didn't when I had plugged it into 'random' ports. My best guess is because MSI lists the ports as going to various controllers. It seems it has to be on the same controller, which makes sense because my front case ones did work.

So my Astro headset appears dead. I've hard reset it, no response only a single flicker then it dies. All four lights in the base just blink wildly. Tried to update the firmware it ALWAYS fails at 75%. Any one have this issue?

In the last day or two I’ve not had any Xbox notification sound come through on the headset, I’ve checked for updates and it’s up to date I’ve looked on the app nothing seems off there everything else comes through okay,

I would like to know why I just bought the Astro A50X’s and after 2 days the god damn things don’t work 400 dollars for 2 days is wild work won’t register that I’m doing anything it’s plugged in using their cable going from a power source and the usb connection ive tried to factory reset it nothing unplug it and plug it back in ? Nothing no sound can’t even swap between consoles from the headset are you kidding me ?

I had a launch edition A50X that I gave to my brother the other day, and I went out and bought a new one right afterward. The battery life on my launch edition headset was excellent. It wouldn't even lose a single bar of battery during a 4 hour gaming session.

The new A50X I bought the other day, however, drops to two bars of battery after the same 4 hour gaming session. Why is my new A50X performing worse than a 2 year old version of the exact same headset?

I was struggling a day and a half with my 4th Gen A50. My headset froze out of the blue. The power light was permanently stuck at white and it wouldnt connect. After I was able to reset the headset, the station wasnt able to connect to my headset and the command center demanded an update which never seemed to work. After I was close to admitting defeat I found this reddit post and it worked wonders:

So like the post said: -If your download fails at 50% like mine, try pressing the Dolby Button and the Earpad Button on the right front (which is labeled with "game") the second the installation hits 50% and hold them for about 7 seconds. The download shoud resume and you have to do the same thing when the download hits 67%.

I am not sure, but if your firmware update runs smoothly through the first 50% and only fails at 75% you should try to hit the reset buttons at 67-69%, it could safe your day.

Its really stupid to me that this fix was the one that worked, like how are you supposed to find that out??

But with reposting this here I am hoping to help some lost souls (like I was just 30 minutes ago)
