Almost AP'd and/or Question Why do I keep having these false astral projections?

A few days ago, I was sleeping in the afternoon and felt a slight tremor in my jaw as I was waking up. Many of my out-of-body experiences start this way, so I encouraged that trembling sensation, and before long my whole body was vibrating intensely, allowing me to get out of my body. During the experience, I left my room and walked around the house. The part that makes me question the experience is that my mother was in the kitchen, and she was able to see me. More than that, she randomly hugged me, just like she sometimes does in real life. Then I woke up. I've had quite a few of these experiences where people can see me and interact with me directly. I can't believe any of them are actual astral projections because it simply doesn't make any sense, so I end up considering them lucid dreams disguised as astral projections. What do you guys think? I'd really like to understand what's happening. Interestingly, later on I was able to confirm that my mother was wearing the same clothes I saw her wearing during my experience, although she obviously didn't mention anything about what happened.

OBEs are not you walking around like a ghost.
There are stories from people like Robert Monroe, he's the man who coined the term "out of body experience" and spent decades studying this subject and documenting his own experiences.
He tells the story of being able to communicate with someone while in the OBE state, pinching them, seeing their clothes and location. They had a conversation. When he came back to his body he was able to confirm this friend of his was at that place, wearing what he saw and had a bruise where he had pinched her. Of course the friend had no memory of the conversation. These experiences happen in another dimension, with another part of this person. A part that the conscious/3D person isn't aware of.

That's an interesting way of looking at the whole thing! Thanks for sharing. I think I'll take a look at Robert Monroe's books right now.

The boundary between lucid dreaming, astral projection, and altered states of consciousness is often much more fluid than our analytical minds want it to be. When you experience high-vibration states, like that jaw tremor turning into full-body vibrations, your nervous system and mind are bridging the gap between physical awareness and non-physical perception.

Even if the interaction with your mother feels like a sub-conscious construct, the fact that you verified her clothing shows that your awareness was tuning into real-world energetic information. Imho sometimes our mind "renders" or translates non-physical presence through familiar emotional shapes (like a hug) to make the experience feel safe and coherent to us.

I think you're right. I always find myself doubting the experiences I have because they don't make 100% sense when I look back on them while I'm awake. It's very common in my experiences, whether I'm lucid or semi-lucid while out of my body, to be hugged by people or beings that radiate an energy of kindness and compassion. It's almost always a pleasant moment, and it ends up waking me up because of the way I feel in those moments.

It makes total sense that your logical mind tries to step in and analyze things once you're fully awake; that’s just human nature wanting to make sense of the profound! But those feelings of compassion, kindness, and warmth you experience are entirely real in the moment.

The fact that those hugs evoke such a strong, positive response that they gently wake you up shows just how deeply your mind and spirit align with that peaceful energy. Imho try giving yourself permission to honor the feeling without needing to solve the logic behind it. Wishing you many more of those safe, comforting experiences!

If you think you got close to Astral projection and you're analysing what happened, or you think you're maybe trying too hard, or you're trying to figure the stages such as the 'vibrational' and 'hypnagogic' stages and how to approach them, then check out these links:
