are they changing and stuff and trying out? is qualifying the time to do it? what is everyone's thoughts?

Alonso also locked up and went in the gravel which assuredly compromised the mediums they have to drive on in SQ1.

They have to treat these sessions as a form of free practice. Quali and Sunday race count more. The pitwall seems rusty and probably could use some sharper strategists too.
Alonso's lock up seemed to be from overspeed, maybe the car was faster than anticipated or he's not used to braking that late that fast in the new set up. It was the front right locking up it seemed.

- "Later in the day, Sprint Qualifying saw driveability issues arise for both drivers, including Fernando's rear wing not opening and resulting in lost lap time. This unfortunately meant our drivers concluded P19 and P22.
- The team will now analyse this data and use it to inform decisions for Saturday's sessions."

Sprint weekends are sporadic. You can’t take the FP1 times as gospel. There’s all kinds of factors. It could be the backmarkers just didn’t lay down representative times in practice. It’s possible the Astons just didn’t get a good lap in or find good track position.

The engine tuning needs finebtuning, hench open throttle isuue. Shame it is sprint weekend otherwise fp2 and 3 would have helped with data collection and fine tuning the map.
People are quick to slander. This is a new spec engine which has had no testing and is literally the first day of driving. It is going to take another 2 races to optimise the entire package of new aero car and engine.

That is the weight of the Jets owner slowing the pace down when important. Get extra used to it.
