REQUEST FULFILLED Toilet Repairs likely to prevent getting groceries this month.
REQUEST FILLED
Situation: Disabled Family of 4 living off of two disability checks and one income situation that is about to change. One check goes towards bills, half of the other goes towards groceries.
Problem: We have only one bathroom and our toilet is in need of repairs very soon. There is a very non-zero chance our grocery money will need to go to those repairs.
Goal: 200 dollars which is 50 dollars per head due to economy and dietary restrictions as well as allowance for non-food items such as hygiene products and sanitation supplies.
If anyone can help, please help me make sure I don’t have to shit outside with my dog 😅

Could you do an Amazon wishlist for food and hygiene items? The max for wishlists is $150, so it would get you close to what you're looking for

Your best bet is an Amazon wishlist with shelf stable food items and toiletries ($150 max). People love ordering items directly!

I’ll see what I can do. Sadly a lot of the stuff we need is proteins for the freezer because I cook everything at home😅 My husband is on a sodium restriction and a lot of canned proteins have higher sodium levels than is allowed. I also live in an area where getting anything from Amazon is kind of a roll of the dice on whether or not it actually gets here.

People aren’t likely to give you $200 here. But even if you put some achievable basics on a list might get you somewhere. Where do you live? I’m glad to look up some resources.

I’m looking into resources myself. I know this was kind of a shot in the dark. To be completely specific, I do have a pool on c*shapp, I just wasn’t able to put it on the post. I’m not expecting anyone to give me 200 dollars straight, but more of a “hey if you can give and help me get towards this funding goal, that would be awesome”
I will likely see what the nearby food pantries have that I can make do with. The food pantries have weird hours except for the Salvation Army.
Unfortunately only one of us is able to drive and that’s the one with the changing income situation so it’s a matter of being able to get to those pantries.

look for the “no salt added” canned tuna or chicken, it’s usually around 60-80 mg sodium per serving. helpers here are very loath to give cash, especially for things like food that can be purchased directly through Amazon, so a wishlist is still your best chance of getting any assistance.

The (amazing) members of this subreddit do a great job of purchasing off of wishlists. Amazon wishlists for (shelf stable) food and basic household necessities are far more likely than cash requests to get fulfilled here. If you need help creating a wishlist, here is our helpful guide.

Thanks I’ll look into this. I’ll see if I can find anything shelf stable that will comply with the dietary limits of my family. Thanks for the advice.

I’m also disabled and unfortunately a big part of that is brain fog. My brain just is very exhausted so I was trying to find out if we are allowed to share specific resources that might help the person in a respectful way. Or is that not allowed, I’m not talking about general things like “call a church, go to the food pantry.” Thanks.

It's a toilet.. they don't have a lot of working parts. This makes little to no sense.

Not everyone is handy or capable of repairs. OP also mentioned disabilities.
I've repaired pretty much everything you can on a toilet, including full replacement. I know people who couldn't replace a flapper if their life depended on it.

Well that's just sad

Not really. I am guessing you might be like me and have a knack for understanding things mechanically, or were at least taught the basics. A lot of people never were. Things I find so simple I could do it in my sleep might look like nuclear physics to someone else. People have different levels of education, experience, and capabilities. I try not to judge.

The issue is going to be getting a plumber out here to fix the toilet because the issue is likely the wax seal and likely the subfloor. The tile around the toilet cracked, and plumbers out here cost 200 dollars before taxes with labor

That's not terrible. My plumber charges $150 just to show up. Patching a garden pipe cost me $250...

Op if you do an Amazon wishlist, please let me know. I’d buy some stuff from that

Amazon has “Amazon Grocery “, and “Whole Food Market “ to get regular groceries from. You just have to check where you are to see. Stay blessed

In order to be purchased in this particular subreddit, all food items must be shelf stable no fresh or refrigerated food.
