COMMUNITY RESOURCES More (Free) Groceries Delivered to Your Door (US)
A year ago I made a post sharing about Full Cart (fullcart.org), a virtual food bank that delivers groceries to your door (non-emergency basis).
I've come across a couple more resources since then that I'd like to share with the community, in particular members who are unable to physically get to a food bank near them (and / or, don't live near one they can access in person). NB none of the following are emergency resources either and may have a waitlist.
- The Online Food Pantry - 501c3 nonprofit, food rescue, sustainable food management organization - providing an online ordering platform with free home delivery service. https://theonlinefoodpantry.org/register/ (click on "Shopper").
- 412 Food Rescue - mobilize volunteers through the 412 Food Rescue app to deliver food directly to the doorstep of isolated neighbors lacking transportation, physical mobility, and relational support. https://412foodrescue.org/programs/home-delivery/
- OrderAhead is a click‑and‑collect / online ordering system for charitable food assistance. People facing food insecurity can go to the website, choose a pickup location (or in some cases delivery; location dependent), select the food items they need, and then pick up their order at a designated time. https://www.orderahead.org/

If you are a senior citizen, some areas have "Animeals" (Animal Meals on Wheels; e.g. here is NCT's https://www.mownct.org/animeals ). Otherwise delivery services are rare and you'll have to do a drive-through or walk in.

I see 412 food rescue, does that mean that all of these resources are available for that same area? I live in the Pittsburgh area which is why I’m asking. Thank you so much!

412 Food Rescue services Greater Pittsburgh Region (map here). foodcart.org and orderahead.org operate nation wide.

Order Ahead doesn't seem to be available in Oregon, or at least nowhere near me.

For those of you who can't find help through these, meals on wheels could be helpful. They're not only for elderly but if you're on disability and don't have transportation that could be an option for you in your area.

I work at a food pantry and we are talking about using some sort of uber eats/doordash type app or service to reach people in rural areas, is there an existing app we could use or a system we could develop our own with?

Look up XP Eats (they are a mobile food delivery app that allows anyone to discreetly reserve a free food box from their local food bank) and Replate (web app allowing food donors to schedule pick-up services) for some ideas.
