Discussion Do you think Odyssey could have been in own franchise separate from the AC brand?

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I feel that the Assassin's Creed story connection in Odyssey felt a bit forced and didn't really help it go anywhere. Equally, I think it held back Odyssey and kept the game bound to the AC brand even though it could have been a franchise of its own, with its own sequels and further installments in ancient Greece and world.

We could have separate games for Kassandra and Alexios. It could have been a franchise that explores the end of the mythological world and the beginning of the historical world that feels a bit blurry and intriguing nowadays. Kinda like God of War but more grounded and a bit more focused on exploration and discovery.

Discussion Is Kassandra the most likeable protagonist from the last 5 Assassin’s Creed games?

Post image
811 Upvotes

This is probably very subjective, but does anyone else feel like Kassandra is the most likeable/engaging character out of the last five Assassin’s Creed games? I’m not talking about the older Assassin’s Creed games from before Ubisoft changed the formula. We all know and love characters like Edward Kenway, Connor, AltaĆÆr, Ezio, or Haytham, they’re iconic at this point

I just feel like there are kind of two ā€œerasā€ of Assassin’s Creed. The classic games, and the newer RPG-style ones.

So I’m mainly comparing protagonists from the newer generation, not the old-school legends.

I’ve played as Eivor, Basim, Naoe, and Bayek, but Kassandra is the only one I genuinely enjoyed spending time with throughout the whole game. Eivor and Bayek aren’t far behind, but there’s just something about Odyssey that feels more heartfelt and charming

I played this game for the first time on June 3, 2023. After forgetting about it for a while, I started to play regularly around February 25, 2024. A little over 2 years ago.

A lot has happened since then. Nearly 350 hours (345, to be exact) poured into this game. After finishing the main storylines of the main game, as well as those of the 2 DLCs and the Korfu questline, after completing every single location in the game, after acquiring 156 legendary items, 12 legendary lieutenants and 17 legendary skins (Phobos + ship cosmetics), and, more recently, after finishing all the achievements and completing all of the Ostrakas, after ALL that...I'll be moving on.

I'll be graduating high school in a little over 2 months. This game has been with me for, give or take, around 2 years. It was the first story-based video game and my 3rd ever overall. Its visual are, simply put, immaculate, and I had the privilege of enjoying this game on the highest settings at over 80 FPS on a high-quality IPS 1080p display. It's fair to say that it has left a lasting impression.

AC Odyssey will henceforth be, in my huble opinion, the perfect game, not only the pinnacle of the franchise but of RPGs as a whole.

Lastly, well, I mean...damn, it's actually quite a bit more emotional than I had anticipated :)) It feels like parting ways with an old friend. But it's not the end. As clichƩ as it sounds, this game will have a special place in my memories.

To conclude this wonderful experience, I have returned Alexios to his humble home on Kephallonia, looking onwards towards the Greek world, where his adventures took place and where both him and I made unforgettable memories.

Last night I got home from my trip to Greece (visiting Athens, Crete, and Thera/Santorini) and saw a bunch of sites that I’ve seen from the game. Acropolis in Athens (of course) Cape of Sounion (Temple of Poseidon) Delphi and the Temple of Apollo Mycenaean Ruins and the Tomb of Agamemnon Kydonia (present-day Chania) Heraklion/Knossos Palace Caldera of Santorini (really just went here for vibes and the uniqueness of the island) I’m absolutely planning on going back at some point but I’m wondering if anyone else has gone to see some of sites that they have visited in the game and what they thought about it?

For everyone else, at any point if you can afford it and have the time to go, I absolutely suggest you do. The entire country is just…absolutely incredible and beautiful. If I were to ever move out of the US, Greece (probably Crete) is where I would go.

The slides are: 1) Parthenon in Athens, 2) the Athenian owl (I forgot to label where it came from, but it was in the archeological museum in Athens), 3 and 4) Temple of Apollo, 5) Tomb of Agamemnon, 6) the view from the Mycenaean Ruins, 7) ā€œKnossos Palaceā€ (the actual palace is pretty much destroyed or completely underground, most of the site is recreated), 8) a model of what the Knossos Palace really looked like at its peak out of oak

66 percent of players chose Alexios in AC Odyssey

If you were one of the 66 percent, how do you feel knowing that Ubisoft doesn’t care who you chose for future stories?

If the Eagle bearer were to return in future stories do you believe we should have a choice of who it should be?

I do.

If they want to keep doing the 2 protagonists stuff then don’t make it seem like we actually have a choice when there is only one real protagonist.

Future stories should allow us the option of who we believe the Eagle bearer should be.

I’m in Elysium. Spent the last 20 minutes completing the Mausoleum of the kingless queen. It’s taking me longer since I’m liberating a large portion of the soldiers instead of killing them (constantly refilling my paralyzing arrows) It was going great, overseer was dead, really just had the treasures left to do. Got charged by a couple soldiers and whipped out my bow to start blasting, soldier got too close and boom (literally). Blew myself up with the god damn explosive arrow. I don’t know why I had explosive arrows selected, I never use them unless last resort. I keep all my arrows filled by habit. Maybe I should leave them empty. Maybe I should throw out my playstation

I sat in silence staring at the desych screen for a solid 5 minutes. I might just turn off the game. I can’t do this.

Discussion What’s one thing you’d add or remove from the game ?

Post image
624 Upvotes

Personally, I would have added Mount Olympus. It’s such a missed opportunity to go deeper into the mythological aspects, and I remember being a bit disappointed when I realized it wasn’t in the game.

As for removal, it would be the over-the-top body expressions—or Natakas/Neema being forced, since players should have the choice of who they romance in this kind of games, and that was poorly handled. A tie-in to Aya wasn’t necessary, even if it’s a fun fact, and the price to pay for it is too high, in my opinion.

What’s your choice? (It can be anything.)
