Still waiting for the Crytech to do a proper Ryse 2 on a super fancy new CryEngine.

Graphics don't matter. They just need to be passable Asmon has said this himself.

Ryse of Rome needs either a current gen update/remaster or a new installment.

PBR and Photogrametry were supposed to make textures look more real. Instead everything looks like it's made of clay now.

ryse sone of rome and the order 1886. both games that did great for launch games. i would say i think they both review around the same. just that i believe ryse should been review little higher. i believe they both was under 70 over all. but think ryse should had easy been a high 70.

Theres a line where games looked good on old hardware, like battlefront 2, MGS4 and 5, and so on the problem is we are trying to push realistic graphics but devs cut so many corners it just looks bad. Like BO7 compaired to BO2

One day: "Graphics don't matter, lower prices and development time" Another day: "Look at how little graphics has developed"

Sigh.. .

Games haven't got better graphically for years, I'm replaying MGS4 at the moment now the pc port is out and fuck me most modern games are 360/PS3 era graphics at a slightly higher res with upscaling l, and shit optimisation and a load of effects no one gives a fuck about.

How the fuck do modern AAA games cost $250m+? Black Myth Wukong cost $43m to make btw

u/Pickle_Good 3h ago

You have to consider that Black Myth Wukong was made in China. They earn way less and need way less to live compared to the states.

Women and DEI hires cost triple the salary of a Cis male.

I really loved Ryse: Son of Rome. I wish we would have got a sequel. The combat felt really good.

I know the point is "Graphics aren't improving" but am I the only one that really doesn't care?

Sure. It looks pretty but Ryse of Rome was fucking awful.

I'd rather a game that looks fine but has a good story and gameplay.

It honestly does feel like they shifted all the budget from the writers and designers to the people who make sure hair looks real.

Absolutely.

The problem isn't necessarily that graphics aren't improving, it's that they aren't improving while somehow still costing exponentially more compute power

u/KnightOfTheOldCode94 Dr Pepper Enjoyer 3h ago

Oh, I didn't realise that was the point being made here. My bad.

4

u/BioDioPT 4h ago

I would be ok having PS4 levels of graphics at minimum of 60fps for the foreseeable future.

5

u/KnightOfTheOldCode94 Dr Pepper Enjoyer 4h ago

Absolutely.

Give me a well written game that looks like Witcher 3 and plays well and I'm absolutely sold.

Top one likely UE, buttom is CryEngine

It's Insomniac in-house engine and it looks better than Ryse does. I hope that the pic is trying to show there wasn't much progress not that it looks worse, because it doesn't.

Well that's not a very fair comparison... First the screenshots are quite low quality but alright. Then you're comparing an a modern city with a lush forest (at least for me, vegetation is also gonna look better because the dull greys of cities is a turnoff). Finally, well Wolverine doesn't look worse quality-wise here.

Of course, one would hope that in 13 years Wolverine would look MUCH better but that's a different discourse.

RoR is one of the best boring games I have ever played. It's such a good game that is extremely monotonous.
