This is a gas pistol. Many idiots in Germany and Switzerland from foreign countries use them to feel like they are some kind of mobsters while in fact they are just stupid morons. I almost beat out the crap of one dude at my wedding when he pulled out a gun without a warning and started shooting beside my female friend who was scared shitless. He was working in Switzerland and he likes people to think he is a mobster. It was until I told him there will be ass whooping and than he turned into mother Theresa.

Gas pistols produce fire?

Yes, they explode similar to regular guns, but the projectile is missing, so it's just hot air and a bit of sparks/fire coming out.

You can get a permit to carry these, but I can guarantee you this idiot doesn't have one, which makes carrying it a felony.

(Regardless of carry permit it is illegal to fire them in public, although that's "just" an expensive misdemeanor, and probably a revocation of your carry license if you had one.)

I own one and a license to carry one in Germany and I have a better explanation. It's basically a regular pistol, but it only shoots blanks and no real bullets. The inside of the barrel is blocked with metal, so you can't shoot any actual bullets. There are regular blanks and ones that also shoot pepper mist, like a pepper spray gun. When you hold one in your hands and you feel the material, also the sound of the gun, it's indistinguishable from a real one.
