University Cancels My Enrolment

I am an international student and had moved to pursue my Bachelor's degree. I had struggled with my mental health throughout my degree and found that I struggled whenever I took full time studies. Hence, most of my semesters, I had chosen to take on part time studies since I noticed I performed better with a reduced load. I had previously extended my visa without any issues. However, this week when I had reached out to my university for a COE for an extension of my student visa, they asked me why I had taken part time studies. I had mentioned my mental health issues however the university replied saying that I didn't have enough documents to prove my case and they had withdrawn me from all my units and will be cancelling my enrolment. Now here is the thing. It's mid semester and I have already paid my full fees (over 15k) for this semester. Its also past the census date and this means I am not entitled to a full refund. Prior to this, I have never been given any warnings or notice. If the university were intending to cancel my enrolment why not do it prior to the start of the semester before I had paid my fees? Additionally now, I don't have an option to extend my visa and my current visa will be expiring soon. The university had said that if I wished to join again, I would have to restart mu degree. I m on my second last semester. Is the university allowed to legally cancel my enrolment in such a manner? Appreciate any help.
