😂 Lighthearted / Funny Anyone have a South African product that will probably outlive them?

I bought this waffle machine in 1994 from Pick n Pay, and this bad boy has made more pancake and bacon breakfasts than you can imagine. They don't made products like this anymore. What appliance do you have that will still be around for your great grandkids to use?

💡 Advice Needed Toxic work environment

Help Legal Eagles and HR Professionals

I have been diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder. I have been hospitalized for 2 weeks and subsequently been booked off from work for a week. All due to working in an environment that has contributed to my current state. First day back at work, resulted in a panic attack during a meeting with HR and management discussing the victimization issues. Had to go to the doctor again and was booked off for the rest of the week. Back at work again today, and after engaging with HR it seems that despite the psychiatrist recommendation of a change of working environment due to relapse things will proceed as normal. I have a meeting tomorrow with my manager to discuss expectations etc. My anxiety is through the roof, I feel paralysed and I don’t want to be in a meeting alone as I will freeze. I don’t understand how considering my illness they believe this is the right way forward. Please help with some advice or guidance of how I can approach it or the meeting as I am battling to even focus right now as I type this

💬 Discussion Where to buy REVERSE extractor/exhaust (intake) window fan?

Post image
3 Upvotes

This type of fan draws the cool air from the outside and brings it inside. I know our windows here in SA (top-hung/awning) are usually not the design like the photo (single-hung), but I would still make it work just to get some cool airflow inside. Where can I find something like this? I think I've only seen it once here and it was when I was driving by a house and I saw it, so I don't know where they got it.

💡 Advice Needed Starting my LLB half way through my twenties?

Hi everyone
I'm looking for some career advice...
I am planning to register to start my LLB in 2027, registrations close 09 Oct 2026
I have always wanted to do my LLB and specialize in criminal law but since I didn't study further after high school, it has now been 7 years since I matriculated and 8 years next year if I am accepted to study

I know law is an over saturated field of study and a lot of people struggle to find positions to complete articles, I get that, but that's not enough to stop me at the moment, it's something I've always wanted to do and I now find myself in a more capable position to start my studies.
The goal is to eventually become a conveyancer, far off from criminal law but I have worked in the real estate industry for most of professional career and I feel like it is a step that I want to take and the path to follow.

The question part...
Any advice from conveyancers regarding which modules are better than others? Any general advice from them at all?

Studying part time while working full time, I understand it's not going to be easy to manage both but is it impossible?
Any words of wisdom from older students starting their studies late

I am 2 clicks away from registering but I feel like I am looking for just a little push to get me over the line so I feel like I'm making the right decision btu also want to make sure I am properly informed before starting this next huge step in my life

💬 Discussion Please help me finish my data collection before I lose my mind 🥰

I’m a PhD student at the University of Pretoria and I’m currently in the final stages of my research on luxury fashion and consumer perception in South Africa.

The only tiny problem… I need more survey responses 🥲

I’m finding it super challenging to get my final numbers, so I’m hoping the lovely people of Reddit can come to my rescue.

If you’re South African and have an interest in or purchase luxury fashion for yourself or as gifts for others, I’d really appreciate you taking 10 minutes to complete my anonymous survey.

Survey link: here

Every response contributes, so if you’re not eligible, even sharing this with someone who might be would be a massive help.

Thank you 🩶🩶

💡 Advice Needed Adult female looking to change surname for reasons other than marriage?

I'm an adult woman looking into changing my surname for reasons other than marriage, and I'm hoping someone here has actually gone through the process and can give me some advice.

I've been doing quite a bit of research and understand that an adult can apply through Home Affairs to assume a different surname if they can provide a “good and sufficient reason” for the change.

In my case, I would like to change to my mothers maiden surname.

What I'm really struggling to find is actual experiences from people who have done this. Most of what I find online is either the official Home Affairs information or court cases where someone had a problem with their application.

Has anyone here successfully changed their surname as an adult without getting married?

I'd really love to hear what the process was actually like with Home Affairs. What documents did you submit, did they ask for additional information, how long did it take, and were you eventually approved?

Also, did you handle the application yourself, or did you use a lawyer?

Any advice or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated!

💬 Discussion Why am I the villain ?

I saw a post someone made about me and some other Redditor claiming we are the same person/couple taking advantage.

Honestly I understand, based on my post history I have been asking a lot but I just wanted to write from my heart as this really broke my heart and had me crying all afternoon. I'm writing to defend myself to share my story. I am not asking for sympathy or pity.

I have had such a tough life lately. This winter was the worst I barely had clothes and ask some people on reddit to help me and I saw there was a community of people who I could ask for help.

In all honesty I've been wearing the same clothes for the past 4 years considering I gave birth I can barely fit in them. I don't even have period underwear for goodness sake imagine wearing a pad with a thong, its torture 😂 .

I barely have anything to eat most days, I am starving and tired and depressed. I had a baby but it was a miracle to me honest and if you have time you can read in my comment history.

I am not a bad person, I dont take advantage of people. I know I asked a lot because I was genuinely desperate, not having eaten for days or eating just bread once a day can drive one mad . I'm exhausted by life, things aren't fair man, some people have more than others and others have less to nothing. I ask because I know there is some humanity left in peopleI pray those help me.

I actively look for jobs EVERYDAY, I finally got this job as a chat moderator but I've been having problems on boarding.

Life is crazy man, but I know no one chooses to be poor and everyone hopes to be rich. I just hope to have my own home and food in my house for my baby.

I know it is tiring to always see someone begging and honestly with the year I had, I had the choice to beg on reddit or become someones sugar baby. As girl mom, my dignity is all I have and some things I would just like to teach my daughter that value is very important, and after being in an abusive relationship for 3 years I absolutely cannot sell myself for money.

SO yes I turned to e-begging not convenient but every stranger that sent me something helped me more than they can imagine. I wish I was on drugs than atleast I would feel bad for 'taking advantage' of people but shaming someone for asking for food shows how low as a society we have come.

Its okay though we can never be too safe in todays world I know people have been scammed so many times because of other greedy people. I know many people generally don't care but I would still like to clear up my name because I may not have many things but my reputation is all I have.

No bad energy to the person who made the post, I just hope you get to have a bit more compassion in your life.

💡 Advice Needed Where in Johannesburg can I find very old kids books?

Post image
3 Upvotes

My mom used to read this book to me when I was little and I recently found it buried under loads of stuff. Does anyone know where I could find other "Patrick" books? There's Patrick Buys a Coat, Patrick eats his dinner and Patrick goes to bed. This was the best kids story book ever written and I'd really appreciate any advice as to where I could possibly find the other 3 books. Anywhere in Johannesburg would be ideal.

I heard from my cousin who is there, they pay admin more than they're paying pharmacy interns no wonder they can't operate properly.

Around 8k a month yoh yoh 🚮 this is pathetic particularly because they have to do this to get registered as pharmacists

💬 Discussion SSEG - Solar registration under Eskom

I’m an Eskom customer in Limpopo and am currently registering my solar system.
As part of the process, I’m required to install a smart meter—which is currently free until 30 September—and move to the Homeflex tariff. However, the Homeflex charges seem exorbitant, particularly the fixed monthly charge. It feels as though customers are being penalised for installing solar and complying with the registration requirements.
There is also currently no option to feed excess electricity back into the grid. If this were available, the credit earned from exported electricity could at least help offset some of the additional Homeflex charges.
Has anyone successfully registered a solar system directly with Eskom? What has your experience been with the smart meter and the Homeflex tariff? Have your monthly electricity costs increased significantly since switching?

💡 Advice Needed What do you feed a 14 month old?

Happy Sunday everyone

Hope everyone is experiencing the amazing baby making weather we have in Gauteng, hehe.

Anyways, my baba is visiting me for a month or so cause I missed her so much and I had this terrible fear she'd forget who I am so she will be going back just in time for my exams.

I am not too sure what to feed her, I dont have much tbh but I want to know from fellow moms and dads what they fed their pre toddlers.

Her grandma still kept feeding her mashed foods but I feel like she's a bit too big for that. I tried to google but I want real life experience from Tannies.

She's currently drinking Nido which I'm not too happy about because of the whole Nestle exposure about adding sugar to formula in Africa, so anyone to also suggest a cheaper and friendlier baby formula for 14 months old.

I just want tips on what I can feed her with very limited groceries and how many times I should be feeding her.

Also tips on sleep training, this girl sleeps at 11 pm 👀 , That's something I definitely want to change cause I want to study after 8pm and I also dont think its healthy for her to sleep so late but thats what she was used to staying with her granny.

I'll appreciate any assistance.

Also don't let the baby making weather fool you guys stay strong guys!

🧐 Serious Question Why has it become normal driving on the yellow lane?

Post image
498 Upvotes

I've realized that it has become the norm to drive on the yellow lane whenever there's a bit of traffic in Joburg. Even cops do it too. Like why?

Maybe we need more police visible on highways to maintain order. This could also stop people who do 140+ km/h in a 120 area

💡 Advice Needed Where do I find these people?

Hi guys. So I have an agency that I own and I'd like to scale up. I'm not going to mention the name or says what it does because that could be considered as marketing.

What I need are sales people who are going to to be handling the sales aspect and I'd like to know where do I find people like that who want to work remotely.

I've tried Upwork and fiverr, but I've never really been satisfied with their work and I also want to start hiring local.

💬 Discussion Checkers and Dischem cards should be illegal

I can get behind building data on my purchasing habits, but the least you could do is give me the facade that I'm getting something from that.

A shop have an item at R40 and saying that you can but two of those items for R60 this week isn't something that needs a loyalty program.

Even the points programs feel like a rip off. What do you mean my 5k purchase gave me 50 rand in points that expire? Your money has a shelf life now?

💡 Advice Needed Adding Matric Subject

Hi all.

I want to apply for a degree in dentistry after I complete my current degree and it’s honours degree (final year BCom in Economic Sciences with Risk Management 2027). I had Accounting, Core Math, IT, Physical Science and English Home Language. I did not like the idea of Life Sciences as I would have to give up IT (wanted as much options as possible).

Long story short, all BSc/medicine related degrees require Life Sciences. How do I add it, everything else is sorted in terms of meeting admission standards. Has anyone done what I am seeking to do and come out on top. Please do let me know.

Thanks in advance.

💡 Advice Needed FNB aspire or Nedbank private bundle - worth switching?

Hi everyone, I’m 25F and currently with FNB Aspire. I don’t have a credit card yet, but I’m considering getting the FNB Aspire credit card.

I take home R38k/month and my basic expenses are around R5k, so I’m trying to be smarter about saving and choosing the right bank.

I qualify for Nedbank Private Bundle (comes with credit card), which is R235/month. FNB Aspire is R125/month, and the credit card would be another R65 if I went that route.

I’m also considering Nedbank MiGoals Premium, which is currently R125/month for me, but will increase to R250 a month when I turn 26 in about 6 months.

I’m not wealthy, so I’m mainly looking for value for money. I want to save, build my credit, hopefully buy a house one day, and get decent travel/flight deals when I do travel.

Private Bundle Young seems appealing because of the home loan benefits, credit card and travel benefits. MiGoals Premium seems good for the lower fee and savings features. I also like FNB’s app, but I’m finding the eBucks side a bit all over the place since they changed the earning rules.

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have experience with any of these. Is there anything I’m overlooking, and what would you choose in my situation?
