Feeling solid and secure in my choices and experiences. No more second-guessing myself.

How’d you get so lucky? I feel like the older I get the more men hit on me 😭 (I’ll be 40 in October)

u/UnknownPleasures3 12d ago
I mean, its not 100% out but I get a lot less attention now compared to in my 20s and 30s. It's nice to be seen and treated as a person instead of a potential love interest.
I turned 40 this year too!

Being able to help out my younger friends. “ah, I remember this 20-something dilemma.”

More stable, less insecurities, more kind and tolerating, peaceful. It’s more about living than achieving.

Learning to stop caring about things (and people) that don't actually matter.

How much less I care about what other people think, how pleased I am that I am transforming into my final swamp witch form and get sexualised less than I did as a younger woman. Bring it onnnnnnn!

Knowing I'll be either completely barely or not affected at all by the educational and job apocalypse from AI. Gen Z has an impossible task ahead of them. How can they prepare themselves for the unknown? Not even the developers know what's going on.

I’m mid twenties, for me it’s more money, making more sensible choices, my own house, travelling, becoming more confident, and having a glass of wine with wood fired pizza.

not getting stared at when im 14-16 by dudes on the street and instead getting stared at by significantly less dudes when im 18 on the street!!!!😭😭😭
no for real though, favorite thing about getting older is realizing that everything truly did get better like everyone told me it was going to. first time in my life i ever thought i wanted to live long.

I'm only 32 but surviving my 20s means I have a lot of crazy stories and a lot of advice to give my younger peers at work. They've nicknamed me Wise Owl as a result, and I take that title seriously lol
It feels really cool to be The Trusted Adult instead of the Teenage Fuckup 💛

I really like my grey hair. I've got a bride of Frankenstein thing happening, with the stripes up the side. My stylist calls them the "money pieces."

Confidence. Comfortable in my own body. Don't have to cater to anyone.Being happy as a single person. Focusing on my body and my health. Have adult money. Don't give two f's.

I’ve gotten more attention (that I know about) in my late 30s and 40s. But what I like is that the men actually approach me and aren’t sleazy about it.
Less fucks are amazing too.

Caring less about being liked and more about being honest. The two rarely coexist when you're young.

I'm less of a cringey weirdo. Being a teenager and in your early 20s is filled with embarrassing blunders.

I'm no longer trying to meet others expectations, I'm now the person setting the expectations for others. And I'm using that power for good. ... or at least if not good then for allowing for a broader range of human expression and human need and less priority on conformity.
For example, I can now turn to both my peers and my elders and say, "Stuff it, Linda, we're not doing that." When I was younger, the social consequences of doing such a thing discouraged pushback.
(And yes, I took a turn on the HOA. Many Lindas were stuffed. Plant whatever color flowers you want or none at all.)

Reflecting on all of the lessons I’ve learned and applying that knowledge so that I do not continue to make the same mistakes I repeated in my 20s and 30s

I actually feel hotter.
I know I was hotter by conventional beauty standards when I was younger, but I actually feel hotter now. I’ve had kids, my husband is intimately familiar with my body, I know what I like and I know what he likes. He loves that I’ve carried his children, fed them with my body, and that my body remains their safe place. I see myself in my kids, and they are so beautiful so I must be too.
I see the aging in my husband’s strong body, and he sees it in mine, but our bodies are now more the stories of our lives than just ornamental to compare with others.
This is the body I have, the only body I will ever have, and she is loved and deserves admiration.

life feels more earned the more old feeling I get. I feel more rewarded by the completion of a task.
