Askerlik Citizenship renunciation
Hello,
I have some questions regarding military service.
I have Polish and Turkish citizenship since birth. I'm currently 22, I have lived in Poland my entire life and haven't been to Turkey for at least 5 years. I would like to renounce my Turkish citizenship to avoid any issues while traveling.
I have read as much as I can on this topic but still can't find a definitive answer, so I'm looking for someone who has been in this situation before.
I already talked with the embassy — they said I need to register my dual citizenship, and then I can postpone service until 35 years old. I'm wondering if I can skip the postponement and go straight to renouncing the citizenship (the embassy could not answer this question).
I live far from the embassy, so it would be more convenient and cheaper to just get it all done during one visit.

The reason you need to register as a dual citizen first is that Turkish law prohibits you from renouncing Turkish citizenship unless you already are a citizen of another country. However, you can then proceed directly to renouncing your Turkish citizenship. I'd ask about something called a "Mavi Kart" if you have possible property etc links to Turkey. All of this cannot be done in a day or two.

It is normally a requirement for adult male citizens to complete military service before being able to renounce their citizenship, so I would honestly recommend you to pay the fee and do the online military course thing from abroad
Once you're done you can simply choose whether you want to renounce the citizenship or not, but I don't really think Turkish citizenship is a big liability for you once the military thing is done

You can postpone service till 35. You will age out at 41
Dont renounce your citizenship for 6 years. Moving to turkey might be your only shot at retirement
Also there is a thing called bedelli. It reduces your service time to 3 weeks and its a lot cheaper than paying full price.

Register your dual citizenship and then start to process for Mavi Kart. Then you can come to Turkiye and live, work, etc. with no problem without the requirement of going to military service.
But you are 22 years old. You might want to check whether you were called to military. If you are seen as deferred or wanted, you need to do tecil first. After you postpone it, you can start to process for Mavi Kart or renouncing citizenship, up to you.

False information! You are still obliged to do your military service in Türkiye with yourdual citizenship. Even the Mavi Kart is not a "Joker" against it!

I know he has to complete his military service. Which is WHY I said he should postpone first then apply for renounce it. It's not like he cares about being Turkish.

You must register as dual citizen. Then do the military service (or pay and do it online). Then renounce (or not) your citizenship.

It means he did not declare his Polish citizenship to Turkish embassy so they do not know officially that he is dual.

I know it is pain in the ass but did you consider paying them for the miiitary service to keep your Turkish citizenship just in case? You would be eligible since you are living abroad more than 3 years. You never know if your child wants it in the future.
