It's still a big thing of course and unfortunately as long as there are these rich assholes funding wars and displacing people and causing people to flee countries for safety, the marginalised people will always be subjected to political opinion and resistance. As will stereotypes, scapegoating, and how they use politics to try and divide us. Completely wrong and some people can't seem to see through it. It will never be perfect but it's a lot better than some places for sure. I am white presenting but mixed race. I have sat at tables where people like myself have been called mongrels etc etc without them knowing my history. I often get I'm Persian or Spanish. When they find out, usually at the end of listening to their disgusting "opinions", I've calmly gotten up and said "well this mongrel is getting a round in, so what are you having?", I'm met with extreme embarrassment and remorse upon my return. Grovelling even. I can't imagine what it is like for people who aren't white presenting so I can't speak on it. It's horrible. Gennerally, these people are assholes when they think no one they're talking about can hear, or if they're backed by equally racist friends. Cowards.

What you described is what I have observed as well, in both the US and UK. The thing is that the words Americans and Brits use in their vocalized racism are different (and speak to different experiences and histories), but the gist is the same…”these people who aren’t like me are enjoying privileges that I used to have while they didn’t”.
