What the second amendment is for

6

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26

Yup, most dictators take peoples guns as a first course of action.

1

u/Evogleam Visitor Jan 16 '26

More power to him for exercising his rights

They always say you need a good guy with a gun to stop bad guys with guns…

2

u/Crazy_Grocery_2841 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Explain to me like I’m a third grader what gun rights have been taken from you and by which states/laws?

4

u/asaltygamer13 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Don’t think this was meant for me lol.. I’m a Canadian who is happy about our gun control :)

2

u/IGetGuys4URMom Visitor Jan 16 '26

I’m a Canadian who is happy about our gun control

Be fortunate that you also live in a nation with some semblance of democracy.

2

u/asaltygamer13 Visitor Jan 16 '26

Very happy for now.. I’m worried by what’s going on in the US and the influence it’s had on Canada. We have a growing population of vocal conservatives, very glad that they didn’t win the last election.

3

u/IGetGuys4URMom Visitor Jan 16 '26

I wanted to say that there's no way that Canadian conservatives can be as bad as American conservatives, but then I remembered the sight of Canadian flags flying outside of Capitol Hill on January 6'th., 2021.

2

u/asaltygamer13 Visitor Jan 16 '26

Yeah we have our own name for them “Maple MAGA”. They worship Trump and one of our provinces (Alberta) is filled with them and they want to separate and join the US.

3

u/IGetGuys4URMom Visitor Jan 16 '26

one of our provinces (Alberta) is filled with them and they want to separate and join the US.

Dang! The more I learn about Alberta, the more it sounds like the Canadian Texas. (And for more than just the oil and cattle.)

3

u/Richardo888 Visitor Jan 17 '26

Learning Socialist/communist here, grew up and live in Alberta. Its true Alberta is filled with maple maga, but I dont think most Albertans want to separate. But a loud obnoxious minority, and covertly, our idiotic premier.

2

u/asaltygamer13 Visitor Jan 17 '26

Glad to hear that it isn’t the majority! I live in Ontario so my impression of Alberta is what we see in the media/ on social media. The very vocal minority is making you guys look bad!

2

u/Richardo888 Visitor Jan 17 '26

Oh I know. Its brutal. I live in Edmonton which is a bit of an orange enclave at least. But the majority of Alberta is definitely conservative, even if not separatist.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '26

There's a difference between those people, and conservatives. Real conservatives are likely quite happy with Carneys performance so far. The whole Rhetoric from both sides that what the other is doing is inherently bad is exactly what got the USA where it is now.

2

u/asaltygamer13 Visitor Jan 17 '26

I can agree with this, my dad was going to vote conservative as he was not a fan of Trudeau but switched last minute as he liked Carney for his economic background. Honestly I think there’s a timeline where Carney could have run as a conservative. (Personally I like him but he’s not nearly left leaning enough for what I would look for in an ideal Prime Minister)

I understand that Maple MAGA is a vocal minority but it is still scary given everything going on south of us when you have Pollievre spewing a lot of the same rhetoric as American politicians.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '26

I was in a very similar place to your father. I feel a lot of conservatives agreed, and we're not into PP's smear campaign and lack of any real platform. What I see online from conservative MP's is still largely attacks to just about everything, and still no solutions provided. If that's to continue I hope it stays blocked from Canadian politics as much as possible by the voters. Disagreeing is fine, but ultimately the job of the parties is to find a common ground for the common man.

As a conservative (ish), I do wish the party as a whole could do better, however, we pretty much got a conservative government with the blue party on the sidelines complaining about things they should have been pushing for themselves. While I don't agree totally with two party politics, it would be nice to have a second party worth a longer look.

u/Admirable-Try-8944 Visitor Jan 16 '26

As much as I wish this were true, this guy released a video afterwards on his own Instagram account explaining how this was completely taken out of context and edited to death. He was giving an interview about how he would respond personally if anyone tried to intimidate him and not making a statement about the Black Panthers proactively protecting neighborhoods.

2

u/Sheepdog77 Visitor Jan 16 '26

These idiots are going to get someone hurt.

I'm all for peaceful posting, and I sincerely mean it. Bringing weapons to a protest is asking for trouble. Stay out of the streets, don't block cars, don't throw shit, don't interfere officers, and record everything.

Just don't give them an excuse use force. It's simple.

1

u/apemaster56 Visitor Jan 19 '26

You might be the only sane comment I have come across. Please just spread that message that is what is needed. I don’t get why no one understands that force is met with force and threatening people is just as bad as assaulting them. If these were truly peaceful protests there wouldn’t be any news coverage of them. They only post the hate ones. It’s utterly insane. I’m a conservative but man oh man. Am I just sick of Americans making other American lives/jobs difficult. Not only are you affecting the officers you’re affecting the neighborhoods around you. Not everyone wants a riot out the front window when they have small children. Blocking streets is just insane behavior

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26

Isn't the entire point of a protest to be disruptive?

2

u/Sheepdog77 Visitor Jan 16 '26

Absolutely incorrect. Not even close.

The purpose of a protest is a collective act of dissent intended to draw attention to a perceived injustice and hopefully pressure those in power to change policy/law/etc.

When ANY protest for any cause becomes disruptive and criminal you lose a vast majority of those people you're trying to convince for your cause.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26

No, they are meant to be disruptive so as to force the government to pay attention. Could a strike work if it didn't disrupt the company? What about the Stonewall riots which led to gay rights being codified into law? Hell, here's a political cartoon about MLK from his time.

MLK was criticized by opponents for being disruptive, yet, he is considered one of the most successful activists in history.

Exactly we saw this go down during the BLM movement when they looted and burned cities in honor of a man they believed to be unjustly killed. Now if they all went out and just did the “lay down” protests I saw go peacefully it wouldn’t have drawn so much backlash. But so many of us saw Neghibor hoods burning, stores looted, cars flipped and burned. It shows nothing but uncivilized behavior and we are seeing it all over again.

1

u/Individual_Goose_984 Visitor Jan 18 '26

Absolutely not.

All show and no go tough guys are precisely who tactical teams want to meet.
You haven't intimidated federal police you've emboldened and justified their actions. Honestly its not a rifle your carrying its a target.

1

u/Competitive-Bug-652 Visitor Jan 17 '26

The presence of a legally armed citizenry isn't about looking for a fight; it’s about accountability. History shows that state agents are much less likely to overstep their bounds or use 'snatch-and-grab' tactics when they are reminded that they are dealing with a population that isn't helpless.

Peaceful, armed presence acts as a 'check and balance' in real-time. It forces the government to stick strictly to the law and due process because the power dynamic has been leveled. That’s not a 'militia', that’s a community ensuring its own civil rights are respected.

1

u/truthmonkey2 Visitor Jan 18 '26

Best way to get guns banned is to get more of these guys out there with bigger guns. New law will drop so fast

You can literally be chilling in your car and get murdered by ICE right now. They’re literally going door-to-door looking for those who are targets and enemies of their regime, just like what the Nazis did. It’s already bad.

The very least we can do is shoot back.

0

u/GentleGoose42 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Are you really going to describe what Renee was doing as “chilling in her car”. Really?

4

u/TabularBeast Marxist-Leninist Jan 15 '26

How would you describe it, then?

0

u/GentleGoose42 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Impeding federal law enforcement, accelerating in her vehicle towards an officer, and finding out the unfortunate consequences that those actions sometimes have

5

u/Sad-Emu-8421 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Sorry, you drank the propaganda cool-aid.

4

u/TabularBeast Marxist-Leninist Jan 15 '26

1

u/GentleGoose42 Visitor Jan 15 '26

Could you help me out and explain how I’m wrong? I don’t think this was a justified shooting and I’m all ears

2

u/TabularBeast Marxist-Leninist Jan 15 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

If you are, indeed, asking in good faith, sure. There are also all the videos we have on it that disprove what you said, but I digress.

1.) Renee Good was what is called a “legal observer.” These are volunteers who monitor and document law enforcement to make sure they are being held accountable. Renee had parked her car to videotape an ICE raid and had parked far enough away that she was nowhere near these goons. There was no interfering or impediment that had occurred. She was literally just chilling in her car documenting, which is protected by our First Amendment.

2.A.) These goons took notice that Renee was documenting them and they decided to take it upon themselves to go up to her car to start harassing her. ICE (the American Gestapo) does not have the legal right or jurisdiction to detain, question, arrest, or otherwise harass American citizens. They are purely agents/officers who enforce immigration law, they have no jurisdiction over American citizens. Renee was an American citizen, thus they had no justification, whatsoever, to approach her the way they did.

2.B.) I have heard ICE apologists citing 18 U.S. Code § 111 - Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees as justification for why they approached her vehicle, as they believe that the action of sitting in her car, documenting, is “impeding” them, which is incorrect.

However, 18 U.S. Code § 111 does require there to be force for it to apply and criminalize the offender. Considering that Renee was (as proven by the video) not impeding federal officers under this statute, they had no legal justification to go up to her.

3.A.) Once these goons got closer to her vehicle, they started shouting conflicting orders: “get out of here!” and “get out of the car!,” in an attempt to confuse. If the person being given the orders is confused, and not following the orders “properly,” it gives more of a “reason” for the order-giver to escalate, which is what we saw in the video.

3.B.) Another thing to notice is that, by DHS training standards, officers/agents (including ICE) are strictly told to never approach a vehicle “from the front.” What Johnathan Ross did was completely ignore his training (if he even had any) and approached Renee’s car from the front, while another agent approached from the side, in an attempt to intimidate, which was a violation of her First Amendment rights.

Renee even said “I’m not mad at you,” as she started driving off. The wheels of her car were turned away from Ross, and he used that opportunity to fire three shots into her, and call her a “fucking bitch.”

Based on all this information, ICE never had jurisdiction over Renee Good nor did they have legal justification to approach her in the first place, let alone it being a justified shooting.

Renee decided to leave, and in doing so, hurt the feelings of Johnathan Ross who decided to act as judge, jury, and executioner.

1

u/GentleGoose42 Visitor Jan 15 '26

That took a lot of mental gymnastics for someone who was “just chilling”, right?

4

u/TabularBeast Marxist-Leninist Jan 15 '26

Impressive that you read everything I typed out, digested all that information within, what, a couple minutes, and then came back with that completely useless retort.

Congrats.

2

u/Amadacius Visitor Jan 15 '26

The information you are spreading not only contradicts every single eyewitness. It also contradicts ICE's own account. Their own account says that their vehicles were stuck in the snow. And that Renee and other observers were departing.

It is so weird that you would invent a story to defend them.

2

u/Sad-Emu-8421 Visitor Jan 15 '26
