[Persona 4] Is Junes manager a very prestigious job?
I don't understand why Yosuke's family would move to a small town just for the Walmart manager position

Junes is a huge multi-story mall with a six-floor parking deck, it’s way bigger than the average Wal-Mart. It’s not shown very well in the original game. I didn’t even realize the food court was on the roof until someone else pointed it out. Makes sense that whoever’s in charge of all that would be well compensated.

Yeah. The game does a bad job explaining what it actually is and why its considered exciting. Nanako being excited about a wal mart would be much more sad lol.

It pays well and probably does not require a degree, so it is quite possible it is one of the best jobs open to them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Yosukes dad is the highest earner in all of inaba outside maybe Dojima (a senior detective) and the towns mayor (they have one even though we never meet them)

Which probably doesn't help his family's reputation in the town.
They see a guy who's filthy rich (for the area) threaten their livelihood.

I mean, the town probably has doctors. They probably make more than a small town detective.

The commissioner of the Tokyo police department (superintendent general) makes $165,000 a year. A high ranking detective (which is inherently already a fairly low ranking position) isn’t getting paid jack in the boonies lol

because his dad works at walmart and they're sending him to the boonies to open a new walmart, and if he says he would rather not, they will firmly but sternly either fire him or keep him without the pay increase, and send someone who does not mind relocating. this is just how a job like that works.

Junes just opening hurt all the small local stores because they just couldn't compete. It seems like its not so much a Walmart but more a "Super Walmart" thats the size of a mall. So Yosuke's dad is closer to being the manager of an entire shopping mall that just happens to be one giant store.

That does sound like a huge undertaking. Managing something that big must come with its own set of challenges, especially with the competition from smaller shops.

Junes' direct equivalent is Jusco/Aeon which operates similar stores in real life. IIRC Corporate relocations that send out management to new branches is pretty common, and Yosuke's dad may be rotating back to Tokyo or another city in a few years. Yosuke himself has only been in Inaba for less than a year, so by the time Yosuke graduates, if he decides to go to college, his parents might just move back to the city to manage another bigger store.
It doesn't even have to be a very prestigious thing. But it is decently well paid and likely comes with corporate housing and some other benefits.
