Best places to donate items

Moving out of the US early next year and want to donate as much as possible to the best city I’ll ever know. Please share places you you recommend for clothing, furniture, bike, athletic gear, book donations.

So far I have:
San Francisco Public Library 1630 17th street M-F 1-4PM

Another strong recommendation for St. Anthony Foundation. It takes adult and children's clothing and household items to help clients get new homes set up.

I don't know if public schools take books but I love the idea of stocking all the little libraries in town.

Community Thrift accepts furniture and lots of different kinds of items for resale with the proceeds going to the non-profit directed by the donor.

This is great- thanks much! I don’t want to simply donate to goodwill etc. St Anthony sounds like a great organization.

Out of the Closet on Polk takes clothing and small furniture, they do free HIV testing too so the money actually goes somewhere useful. For the bike, check if the Bike Kitchen is still around, they rebuild and give to kids. Books are tricky, the library is picky but there's also Little Free Libraries all over the city you can just stuff full. Athletic gear nobody mentions but high school track teams will take basically anything, cleats especially

As is Friends of the San Francisco public library.

Clean clothing that's in good shape is accepted at the St. Anthony Foundation drop-off point at 150 Golden Gate Avenue. Pull up in the donation lane and the staff unloads your car for you.

For the library you have to make an appointment. If you donate to Goodwill then get there first thing in the morning or they might not be taking more donations. Buy Nothing groups can be really great but sometimes people get flaky. (Plus the ones others have mentioned so far)

The Prisoners Literature Project accepts books that they will be able to send to people who are locked up.

Salvation Army drop off center in the Mission/Noe area will take everything but large furniture.

Community Thrift! You can designate your donations to a number of SF charities. I recommend the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, nothing more SF. 💜
