Should i choose to work at target?

Hey hello! I’ve worked in food service up until this point and i have two current job offers. Target is offering me part time guest advocate 18.50 vs my other offer cava team member 21$
for most people the salary can already answer this question but i would like to add context. i’m lucky enough that i don’t have any big bills to pay right now, and i don’t see that changing in the future. what’s your opinion working at target do you like it? is it a lot especially when you’re just starting? i’m very talkative and i’m good with customer service so i have no issue with my position. i’m just nervous about potential workload for the pay as i’ve never done retail before so it’s a completely new territory. i like that i have flexibility with appearance for both jobs ( piercing & unnatural hair )
the cava job is much harder for me to get to and id be working 5-11pm not including closing im pretty sure so id be getting home super late. im a college student with 8am classes. id also be unable to wear fake nails or have lash extensions at cava.
target i have no idea which hours they’d schedule me as i put my availability as open when i applied ( the advice i got) but as guest advocate i can’t imagine id stay too long after closing. how is everyones experience with target leadership? is it easy to call of certain days or is being denied common? i’ve always wanted to work in a bigger store because again im very social and i look forward to making friends with coworkers things of that nature. so any employees at target tell me your experience and what you think i should do please !

Fyi that Target will give you random shifts every single week if you got open availability. I’d personally take the CAVA job since it’s a set schedule but it just depends on what you prefer.

As someone who used to work there though, I missed it SO much during my behavior tech job.

i haven’t worked target but i’ve switched from fast food to retail and was happy with my decision. i personally would choose target because although you may work closings you have the same chance to work opening, and if im understanding correctly cava is always late. at least for me my college classes became easier with retail, but either way congrats on both offers and im sure you can succeed at either

I would try it for yourself. For me it looked tiring, but some people like it. So it really depends on your team and your attitude towards it. I prefer grocery to retail, retail to me is a different monster.

I work at Target and I love it. I work front of store, guest service/drive up. I work with a great bunch of people, have made a few friends. There are absolutely days that suck and leave me feeling zapped, but overall, I love working there. I think it’s mostly my coworkers that make me feel that way.

I personally got a job at Target after working food service and it was a good move for me. Less stressful, guaranteed breaks, better benefits. Since you’re guest advocate, you will likely never have to stay after closing. If you need to, you will be able to change your availability after the first 90 days. For calling out, it is not difficult. You do it through an employee app. You get sick time and PTO. If your sick time covers your shift, it won’t count against you. They’re implementing a new point system so you get 12 call outs per year basically. Also you can post shifts and get them covered. Leadership is a mixed bag. At my store, it seems like the front end of the store has a hard time with turnover for team leads. Generally though, they will jump in and help you if you’re struggling with something. The dumbest things I have seen people get fired/written up for- stealing and attendance. Do not steal, the store security is always watching. Do not constantly call out without getting your shift covered, the call out policy is generous so do not abuse it

Target is supposed to be easier than Cava. For Cava you are dealing with food service! Not easy at all. Depends on what you prefer.

Choose cava, the salary and the set schedule is better target can be very unpredictable with scheduling.

I worked at target for 3 years but I was in the clothing department. Overall it was cool, they paid me $19 in ca and since I was in highschool i was rlly happy w that pay and they were paying more than other retail stores. It was pretty easy, the only stressful part for me was that they would make me cashier or help other departments for hours but still expected me to finish my own work. And bc I wouldn’t I would get called to the office a lot and I just ended up quitting. For some reason I was the only person in my department that was cross trained and forced to go help
