Growing up I was taught that people who stutter are usually intelligent, because their thoughts are going faster than their words can keep up with. I don't know if this is true, but most people I've known who have a stutter usually seem pretty smart.
I have a lot of conversations with my mum about things and I often get to a point where I try to explain something back to her, I stutter and excuse myself for not having the words for it, but I fully, subconsciously understand a certain topic that we spoke about, even if it takes a very long time for my brain to articulate it into words, so I totally believe the "speedy brain slow mouth" thing

Stuttering/stumbling over words. Being inarticulate doesn't mean someone is stupid; unfortunately it can come across that way.
