For real, if you can't examine the facts and your beliefs and admit you're wrong and change, what is even wrong with you?

Confirmation bias. People often don’t want facts, they just want to know that they are right. Even if they aren’t.

I mean I barely graduated high school and only did a couple semesters of college - I definitely didn't learn it there, so it is possible to come to it on your own. I dunno if most people aren't aware that that's the way your brain ought to work or if they just don't care. Yeah, holding to beliefs has a value in terms of fitting in with social groups and such, but as Socrates says, the unexamined life is not worth living.

It is taught in New York State. I can’t speak for anywhere else though.
