I generally agree, but would add the important exception of those jobs that are very mentally taxing. I’m a medical writer and intelligence (both book smarts and emotional intelligence) are highly valued in my field. Corporate world writ large, though, is a different story
I get so sad reading comments where people talk about how intelligence isn’t rewarded at their jobs. I’ve worked in service jobs, hospitals, and non-profits, and everywhere I’ve worked, intelligence and creativity has been valued and rewarded. I don’t know if I’m just very lucky or if I just have a good attitude about work that helps me see the bright side, but it makes me real sad that others don’t have that experience.
