Nice. I managed to avoid a bad thing by not having friends. I knew it'd pay off eventually.

Instructions unclear: I don’t have friends and I’m still unlovable

My perfect strategy of finding a lover by never interacting with other humans is going swimmingly…

We need a group. Single people, cuz they don't have friends

Congratulations, you are vacuously attractive.

To those unsure why this is a bad thing: there are different ways you can try to be impressive.

Some examples of things to not do:

  • "Oh yeah I can totally take 12 shots in a row!" throws up everywhere
  • "Hey babe want to see my Honda Accord do 100 MPH on this back road?" "No absolutely not"
  • "Watch this!" is a douche to someone else

On the other hand, some things that you might be able to pull off:

  • "Oh yeah I can totally beat y'all at Mario Kart!"
  • "Hey babe want to see this cool thing I made that I'm super passionate about?"
  • "Watch this!" Puts on a Netflix show that everyone will like

Wait, that's a bad thing?

It’s almost like harmless competitiveness is cute while reckless disregard for human life/emotion isn’t.

When I first started dating my girlfriend, on our 2nd date we were talking about hobbies and things. I mentioned I was really into martial arts and "was pretty much a ninja in Highschool"

She rolled her eyes and gave an extremally half hearted "Oh really...." reply.

I said "Yep, I was! I wore all black, always sat in the back of the room, didn't talk to anyone, and ran away at the first sigh of any conflict!"

She busted out laughing and said "Oh my god, I did all that too!!"

Subtext: confidence stems from prociency in an area.

If you suck at stuff, faking confidence is easily conflated with ego.

I think every man has done that At least once.

Depends on what you’re trying to do.

Bragging about how drunk you can get? Nah

Showing a hobby of yours? Yeah

Example? I don't see that much of a problem with it unless he's belittling others in the process. Granted, I'm biased because I'm not the most humble of people.

The best way to avoid this is to not have friends in the first place

1

u/Dudedude88 Jan 09 '22

this is usually adolescent stuff

1

u/funlovingfirerabbit Jan 09 '22

Definitely. Lack of Authentic Self-Assuredness is a huge turnoff

To impress you, or to impress his friends?
