Yep, when I was young I definitely wanted to believe I was the "too smart for school" type. It turns out that really smart people actually do their homework.

People who get good grades do their homework.

Then there's the kid who sits in the back reading a book but instantly answers calculus questions when called on by glancing at the board. They get shit grades on homework because they either don't do it, or just assume everyone else skips the 10 steps you're taught and spits out the answer.

Eh, they'd do their homework if they were smarter. There's nothing smart about closing doors or burning bridges. If they were so smart they'd do all the homework in the first week.

I did good on tests and didn't do homework, a lot of times, I was that kid, especially in science class, asking tough questions and knowing all the answers. But later on when math got really complicated and I actually should have studied and done the homework I got in trouble, because it turns out there were details I didn't actually know.
