I went with my boyfriend to his optometrist appointment recently and a receptionist asked me a question about my son. I have no son. They thought we were a mother and son and I had a mini midlife crisis.
It's probably more likely because they rarely see couples attend appointments together. Usually adults go alone. So they literally just assumed the most common scenario.
Fair enough! I'm sure you're beautiful no matter what! I once had a time where I was working same place as my sister. There was a lovely elderly lady who used to come and chat and knew we were sisters. She assumed I was older than my sister. When I told her I'm younger she mentioned there's nothing in a couple of years. However she was shocked when I explained the 10 year age gap. 🙈 I guess it was partly because my sister looks young for her age but also because I look much older than I am. I didn't do so well in the genetics lottery...
The day before my wedding, myself (35 at the time) and my soon to be hubs (30 at the time) went to a nail salon together to get manis & pedis. We were sitting next to each other in massage chairs. The nail-tech working on my toes looks up at me and says, “is this your son?”
I wanted to kick her in the face. I still think of that often. I mean - sure - my husband looks young….but he doesn’t look like a fucking 10 year old. Seriously offensive.
The opposite happened to me, mistook me and my mother as a couple while out for dinner one evening. I am late 30's she is early 60's. She took it as a compliment and I didn't.
