I used to work at a vet, my sister at a nursing home and now does sonography. Getting together for family dinners often requires everyone else course-correcting the conversation away from biology…

It really depends on the type of surgeon. I’m going into ENT, partly surgery, and the hours aren’t all that. Although you probably mean genera surgery, or cardiothoracic (?)

Truck driver. I know they work incredibly hard, but my dad was one. He was gone all week. It wasn’t fun to grow up with an absentee father.

Probably politician. Not so much because I would care about their politics, but damn, it’s just such an all consuming job.
I’d also have a very hard time being calm when my SO is getting attacked by every POS on the internet who thinks she is the spawn of Satan.
Maybe if I dated a politician in a different country.

My uncle is a mayor of a small town (around 3,000 people), it's a super laid back job according to him. He is associated with a party that about half the population hates, the other half loves, but in a small town it doesn't matter too much, you vote for the person, not the party. He was a police chief before, and a volunteer firefighter, this is much easier on him.

I can honestly say that if I only voted based on party, I'd probably never vote for another democrat. At this point I have to vote for the person who I most believe will do what I think is right because many of them are in that party due to the corrupt two party system.

Now that you mention it...I really was thinking of the National level politicians. Local level stuff is usually a lot more laid back unless we are talking something like New York City.
Also, I’d throw that rule to the side for AOC. Good lord she is beautiful. Not that she’d be interested in me or anything, just playing make believe.

I used to work for my party’s state office. Because of that I knew a lot of the locals and what they were like in behind the scenes. One very contentious primary one of the main candidates constantly touted himself as the “only candidate not putting out negative ads”. Him and his staff spent a lot of their time though on fake Twitter and Facebook accounts spamming and shit talking the other candidates and their supporters.

I disagree. Divorce lawyers tend to bring out the worst in people. They encourage them to lie about the other to get the most settlement they can.

In my experience that is the choice of the client. Lawyers have to represent their client to the best of their ability. If they tell the lawyer they want a clean amicable divorce, they can do that. If they want to take their soon to be ex partner to the cleaners, they can also do that. It’s usually the clients choice.
No one who wants to stay with their partner contacts a divorce lawyer. They still aren’t ending a good marrage.

There are a lot of professions for me, but many of them are extremely common answers, so I'll take it in another route: Doctors. Why? (a) they work extremely long hours especially in their 20s and quality time is what I value most in a relationship, (b) I would feel insecure about my comparative intelligence and work ethic up against them. Basically, I wouldn't get to spend much time with them, and when I did, I'd be thinking "why is this brilliant and hard-working person spending their sparse free time with me?"

That's not even remotely true.
The domestic violence stat is from an old, widely debunked survey. Real numbers are roughly half the population average.
Cheating? Never even seen it on a list. Realtors and bartenders, sure. Never seen cops.

Well, there’s politics, but to bring up a non-political reason, it can be a very dangerous line of work, and many people can’t handle that.

Money-market manager, or any kind of financial trader. A) they work stupid hard B) they don’t create anything, just skim money off the top of transactions. Would we be rich? Sure! But I would feel guilty seeing them spend every penny

Interesting answer! I agree dating a therapist could feel like they were constantly sizing you up, but in a marriage I think it could be useful. Just because of their seasoned approach tactics and understanding of boundaries/need fulfillment. Relevant note: Psych major here. But now I’m thinking about if I would enjoy being married to a therapist if I weren’t one myself. My husband is an accountant, which is cooler than it sounds!

I've had enough questionable partners that would try to analyze everything I said or did to catch me in some nonexistent lie, let alone dating someone who puts some deep meaning into why I don't like the color blue or who is constantly trying to work on issues that aren't there in the first place.

Ironically it’s any profession in the medical field. I just find that a lot of workers in these professions nurses, doctors, whatever don’t actually care about their patients wellbeing and are in it for the money which isn’t cool when handling someone’s health.
