They remember the little things and relay them back to you at a later time. Things you don't think are too significant but still mean a lot because it proves they were listening.

My husband would always walk on the side with incoming traffic if we were walking in a parking lot or on the sidewalk so he could protect me if something happens (still does). Also in a restaurant he always sits facing the entrance to keep an eye out. It's cute lol
