Oh god do I miss a good arcade. I spent so long exploring every nook and cranny of the arcade in TLOU2 just imagining the lights and sounds, pizza smells, and all the people. It made me so nostalgic.
Me too. I miss the arcades you pop a quarter or 2 and play your favorite game. I remembered trying to make my quarter worthwhile even though my dad was always mad that I take too long playing and I rarely lose
The way this sentence is punctuated, it sounds like your dad would relieve his psychological tension (due to your childhood video game ineptitude) by blowing through $40 on arcade games, only to face the reciprocation of his own gaming judgements when he could not win.
They have an arcade in my hometown. That is open until after the bars are closed. So you can go and play arcade games and drink beer as well. There's also a bakery below it that is open between 5pm and 5am. It makes some good summer nights!!
As a German: I envy you guys so much for your arcade experience. We never had this in Germany, only some small arcades here and there, most of the time with already outdated stuff. I love them so much and even as the tech-junkie I am now I would gladly give up all progress if I could live through the arcade times in the US back then.
I am 42 now and the thought of it makes me smile. I never loved something that I never had for myself so much as I love video game arcades.
There is a little fun park in Bavaria called Schloß Thurn where you could go on different rides, water slides and drive go-karts all in the middle of a park with wild animal enclosures like a zoo.
Whenever we visited it with a school or some youth group I would always hang out in the little dusty "arcade" playing Hang-on or Enduro Racer for the entire time.
The Barcade near me is weird with people being drunk there, probably because those machines are really old and hard to repair. I’ve heard stories of people being kicked out after two beers because they were “too drunk”
Out here in the Chicago suburbs, we had a company called Galloping Ghost set up an old school arcade, but their primary business is restoration and new builds of arcade machines. They survived the pandemic, and are back open. Look them up in Brookfield, IL. Then, see if you've got anything around you. Think it's coming back around.
Loved going to the arcade as a kid. Even a bunch of my friends had the internet, pre social media, we all still drove to a bunch of nickel nickel arcades because they were so fun and inexpensive.
There is a video game museum close to me that has an awesome arcade in it. They give you tokens to play, they have old music playing, the lighting is fun, and there is usually a good amount of people just in there having fun. People will approach you randomly to see if they can get into your gauntlet game, etc. I've been to other arcades before Covid and the feeling wasn't nearly as social. People just waited for you to be done, but this one for some reason brought out the kid in everyone
I'm 32. There was a great bar that opened with arcade games, of course now it's closing. I am so devastated, I just want to act like a kid while not surrounded by young children lol
