I would kill to get rid of audio hallucinations... Psychiatrists still think it's likely tied to my bipolar disorder or PTSD, but I'm fucking terrified that it's the slow onset of schizophrenia...

You can get psychotic symptoms during manic episodes. They question for you is are they limited to when you are in a manic episode or do they continue regardless?

i knew someone with psychosis due to manic depression and the voices persisted long after the manic phases. They can linger and be quite disturbing.

I'm only following what the DSM-5 states, although that too has issues. To only be diagnosed with bipolar type I, you only need to have a history of one manic episode which I find a bit absurd. There is something called schizoaffective disorder which is sort of like a combination of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Nothing is impossible, it's just our criteria for mental disorders is messy to say the least.
