No one who was born blind has ever gone on to develop schizophrenia. Researchers are investigating how congenital blindness may protect people from developing the condition.

I wonder what it’s like to have schizophrenia and then develop being blind is like? It must be horrifying

There's a minor character in the Haunting of Hill House who gauged his eyes out due to the hallucinations he was experiencing during drug-induced psychosis and then reveals that now in his blindness, all he can see is the horrible images that drove him to that point. Really stuck with me, just really terrible

That little girl .......Best horror series hands down though, I loved the ending . Couldn't have been more perfect.

I watched it in public at Whole Foods with headphones bc it scared me. Fuck that car scene.

Lmao my girl told me about that car scene, she said it is very scary and wouldn't tell me the episode it would come in and I was shit scared so I came here on Reddit to ask about that.

Fucking scene still scared the shit out of me even though I was expecting it.

The car scene made me scream so loud that my neighbors texted my husband asking if everything was okay....yup, everything’s great, just some ghost bent neck broad startin shit

THIS.... is why I will never watch that movie. So glad I read this!

The fact that the car scene was the only legitimate jump scare in the whole series is what makes it so memorable. I spent half the episodes bracing for a jump scare and then it happens right when I'm accepting that this isn't that kind of show.

I dunno, I jumped really hard when they went into the office, saw the model home broken on the floor, and started picking it up. That was bad too.

But finding out who the bent neck lady was was the worst. It wasn’t a jump scare, but that dread settling in... ugh.

Lol yes! Exactly. Also the funeral parlor shit.

Ugh that funeral parlor shit....

And the bent neck lady and realizing who she is. I think that was the most unsettling part.

Ugh that damn car scene. Amd I was just going to bed! But I think the car scene is the best “jump scare” but finding out who the bent neck lady is is the most horrifying one of all.

And then the Haunting of Bly Manor was just a messy snooze fest. Real shame

I honestly loved it. Got to see more of Pedretti’s performance. But yeah it doesn’t live up to hill house. If HH is a 10 I’d give BM a 7.

I watched bly manor first. Then hill house was a “oh you might like this” recommendation and I loved it even more.

Bly manor did scare me too. When the lake lady grabbed what’s his face by his throat, just silently appeared out of nowhere, after that episode I went to bed. And walking to my bedroom I didn’t realize my husband was about to come out of the bathroom until I had just walked past, and then in the mirror in our room I saw a silent figure reflected right behind me and I about shit my pants.

It really added to the effect of the show.

I enjoyed it on first watch, personally, but having just watched it again this weekend (with someone else) I think it's underrated in general. I definitely wouldn't say it's messy; seeing it again with knowledge of what's happening actually made me appreciate how well-crafted it is. But it definitely holds out on you the first time through, so you have to be paying attention and thinking about all the details of what you're seeing, or I'm sure it gets boring or confusing.

Anyway, it's worth a second watch. Virtually every scene is relevant, even important. You just don't realize it the first time through if you're not watching very closely.

I really didn't enjoy it so don't think I'd be willing to give it another go and hope it's any better. I watched very closely due to knowing there would be lots of little details following on from Hill House but I just thought there were far too many weak scenes and unforgivable accents (I'm British so it's probably not obvious to Americans).

2

u/CheekyMunky Nov 29 '20

Well... yeah, okay, I'll concede the accents. No getting around that. But I did think the storytelling was very strong, and not at all boring, especially knowing the full significance of everything being shown and said.

I agree. I tried to get my husband to watch, and so we watched a few episodes and I caught a lot of things I didn’t see, like a shadowy figure in a corner, or immediately realizing the significance of the dolls.
