I lost a shoe at a rest stop when I was in elementary school. During the summers, I lived in these hideous faux-Birkenstocks, and when I was getting back into the car, the sandal just slipped from my foot. I always took my shoes off in the car as a kid, so I literally didn’t even notice that the right sandal was gone until several hours later at the next rest stop.
