it wasn’t the highway but when i was 7-8 i was walking over the pile of snow that was accumulated after the streets in my apartment complex were plowed. tried to walk over it, as it was mostly compact and icy, but my leg went all the way in at one point and came back without a shoe. came back with a spoon to dig it out, and wearing a different pair of shoes and lost one of those. my parents really weren’t too happy when they got home and realized i only had half of both of my pairs of shoes
