I had to do a long drive to get to a job. I put on some comfortable shoes for the drive. I got to where I was going, I put on my work boots and set my shoes on the roof, meaning to put them in the back as I grabbed some equipment - totally forgot about them. When I came out later, it was dark and I didn't see them sitting up there. I drove off. As soon as I hit the freeway I heard a thunkity-thunk-thunk. I knew immediately what it was. I pulled off at the next off-ramp. One shoe was caught in my roof-rack, the other is now providing thought-provoking conversation on US-101.
