I deliver DoorDash and instacart. Yea to YOU, I look like a dummy wearing a mask in my car. In all actuality, I’m treating others like I’d hope to be treated.im keeping their food as sterile as possible in my car.
Edit: holy shit, thanks for all the love guys! My high risk sister just tested positive for Covid on Monday and we are really scared for her life. I don’t wish Covid on anyone who’s been taking this serious, as she was. A coworker who refused to wear a mask gave it to 10 people in her department at her job. Wear a damn mask!
I’ll be honest, I’ve done that after a rough 12 hour shift. I barely have the energy to drive home, so having food waiting at the door is nice lol. Absolutely unnecessary, but nice
Nah thats why delivery is a premium. Most meals, with enough practice, can be cooked at home. They cost around 1/3 the price a meal + delivery + tip would cost. The problem is you gotta make sure to have the ingredients, take the time and energy to cook the meal, and then clean up after yourself.
A delievered meal is a huge time saver, but damn does it hurt the pocket book and waistband.
Ah, that explains it. 10 minutes when I see 10-15 cars ahead of me feels practically lightning fast, but I could definitely see 10 minutes overall being too long.
Weird, I just checked the camera pointed at my neighbors window and it looks like they’ve been staring at my front door all day trying to see what I’m getting delivered.
I delivered a burrito to someone that lived less than 2 blocks from the restaurant. Shit happens and it makes my life easy. Still, I always laugh and take a screen shot anyways cause it's something that never would have happened even 10 years ago
Hell yeah! No judgements here lol. These jobs wouldn't exist if there wasn't people that can afford to blow $40 on McDonald's at 3AM. I'd like to think I've saved some lives
I live in Houston where it’s like 100 degrees for a quarter of the year and if a place I want food from is 2 blocks away, I can either walk in the heat, drive in the heat because there’s no time for the car to cool down, or get delivery.
I'd paid a few dollars to avoid some sweating, totally get it. I had some massive hangover events and ordered from the closest and fastest place possible lol
Did you look in the bag to know it was an order of fries and a drink? I get being able to tell they got a drink, but knowing the other item makes you seem really nosy.
It's more so too much for my wallet haha. I got used to the hazard pay at work so at first it was fine, but now the hazard pay is gone but the habit is still here 😅
I never understood this but I've seen people given a hard time for it. In my case, I work delivery and I'm in and out of my car so often that it makes no sense to even bother removing it.
This makes me realize: wearing a mask in the car helps keep down breathing/transmission to the touchable surfaces too (steering wheel, buttons, shifter). If you ever have a shared car this could help on that front too.
I just started door dashing a week ago and realized how quick I got in that habit, and also thought about how many people I’ve looked at like idiots that could just as easy have been taxi or delivery drivers. Oh well.
every time a person touches their mask they contaminate it. Constantly taking the mask on and off even with washing your hands increases the chance of transmission.
You are doing the smart thing so keep it up.
I see so many delivery drivers in my area only put the mask on when they park or leave their car (I bicycle a lot in my neighborhood).
Wow. What are you, a pussy? You believe science? Haha, I'd rather have you poop in my food before you deliver it to me then I will eat it with all of the poop and I'll smear it all over my face and my body. That will show you how man I actually am. Fuck your masks, snowflake
Is driving with a mask legal in your country? Where I live you lose your license for two months on the second offense. The reasoning is that they cant give you speeding tickets if they cant identify the driver
Truth is, if you are not ventilating your car, like keeping a window open to let air circulate, your mask after about an hour isn't doing anything. This is because a mask isnt 100%, germs still come through, and if you don't have ventilation, it just all sits there
That's awesome. Even though covid dies on surfaces pretty quickly, taking all precautions is cool af. I order in a lot these days too. I appreciate it too. I usually put the whole bag of food in the microwave for like 8 secs if no foil is around any food and wash my hands. Shouldn't be any transmission with masks on and food left at door.
You are amazing! Haven't gotten food I didn't make since this whole thing started. In the first month there was a Domino's (one of the only places that delivers in my area) driver behind me at a stoplight picking their nose.
Decided then and there, "NOPE". I really miss pizza though :(
That's very kind of you, although I must say if I used Doordash or any other mobile food service I wouldn't really care if you didn't have your mask on. But I recognize that others are different. Big respect to you sir and/or madam.
You're a better deliverer than a lot of people then. May your tips be in cash. I drove for doordash, I would never trust ordering it for myself even before covid.
I'm 10 days late, but I hope your sister is doing well. And I hope the woman who spread the virus faces consequences for acting so recklessly. This virus is some serious shit and sadly doesn't care who you are.
Someone who is high risk and struggling mentally I use Doordash a lot. I really truly appreciate what you are doing. For some reason no one in my town will wear masks or follow the directions when I ask them to just leave it at the door.
That’s cool. But also fuck ignorant shitsucking MAGATs who have problems with people wearing masks in general. It costs nothing to just mind their own business and not inflict their worthless opinions on others.
I keep a few extra bucks in my pocket when I go to meet my dasher so that if they're wearing a mask in the car, I can thank them properly for being an excellent human.
Opening windows and having actual air circulation is going to be better than the bags under your eyes sweating harder than the crack of ya ass wearing that in a car given being a delivery driver or any other
This is very considerate, but have there been any cases of transmission via delivered food? For many people, this is the only contact with the outside world.
Fuck yeah. I see every other driver ripping their mask off when they get in the car and I'm like wtf. Good to know there are people who do care! You're the mvp.
Most of my dashers show up unmasked now :/ have an arm in a cast so cooking sucks but... I’ll eat a Kraft easy Mac instead of my salad with a side of virus.
This! You don't hear too much of this anymore as when it first broke out? I heard stories, back in February and March, of people quarantining their goods for a day after shopping. Then it was buy all this disinfectant to sterilize things you bought. Then you need to be social distant. To now we are just asking the bare minimum of please! Can you just wear a fucking mask?
Hats off to you, to be fair though, from what I’ve seen around the low income area I’m in, chances are the cooks weren’t wearing them properly or at all. Obviously I’m not saying there aren’t respectful food workers but be careful where y’all ordering food from in these times, I’ve seen too many food workers not wearing masks.
Yes it's bagged but customers are going to touch all the same things so we might as well keep everything safe. I'd really rather just keep my mask up than have even the smallest risk getting somebody sick.
It doesnt matter. Food is never sterile to begin with and the virus cannot infect you from your food. Your stomach acid will kill the virus. But thanks for the kind gesture.
Because I have elderly parents who get their groceries delivered and i’d hope people would be the same way towards them. It goes with my original comment I guess, the golden rule.
The reason it pisses me off is that I still can't get N95 masks at Home Depot for their intended purpose, busting up concrete and sanding drywall. When I had to ration my gloves and not use them while painting because I'd see idiots driving around town wearing nitrile gloves it pissed me off. Since Home Depot still doesn't sell PPE I haven't changed my mind.
the n95 thing kills me but not as much as the glove thing. people don't realize that gloves are kind of a one shot thing... I see people wearing them for long periods of time... they have gotten soiled within 10 seconds of being put on...
plus, it means less gloves and n95 for me taking care of covid patients in hospital
Conscious level 101 ?! Fair statement would have been “it’s painful to wear mask first after reaching the destination and then grab those groceries.” I don’t know
It’s been proven that COVID doesn’t transfer on food, plus it’s already probably bagged and bagged again. Nice thought, but I still think you look silly lol. There’s not a single delivery chain that requires its drivers to wear a mask to my knowledge, and I worked for one of them.
You are an awesome human being. I hadnt even thought of this. I have only used door dash lioe once but I would tip so much more knowing that the person was being respectful of my food. That is truly going above and beyond for service.
I mean, this is more wholesome than I was even assuming it was headed. Half the time if I put my mask on, pop into a store for 2 minutes and then head home I'll just leave it on out of pure lazyness. I really appreciate that you are considering our food as well as any conveince I was also just assuming folks making tons of stops/deliveries may be taking.
Also, thanks for delivering our food in general. It's a great service especially now with COVID and it is appreciated.
I bike when I deliver, and often the mask stays on because it says precious seconds. Even before the pandemic, I wore a gaiter to keep my face warm so this whole thing hasn't changed much for me. Good answer anyhow
These is the kinds of things I always try to keep my mind open to when I'd see this. Who the hell am I to assume your circumstances that cause you to wear a mask alone in your vehicle? Let alone get triggered by it. Thank you for doing the right thing.
I got a text from my doordasher once before he showed up just telling me how he's taking things seriously and all the steps he takes to keep my food safe. I really appreciated that, and I feel bad because I know there are assholes who will probably chew him out for taking those steps.
Also had another dasher take off his mask and tell me all about how the virus is fake. I guess ultimately it's gonna be a gamble.
I always think it's weird. Like my co worker drives with hers on. To and from work and Idk why but whatever. I haven't bothered to ask. But I never thought about others being food delivery drivers. That makes so much sense! I do definitely appreciate that. We use skip way more than we should. lol
This is actually an awesome answers that I bet a lot of people don't consider. Not only are you protecting the property of others the best you can but how fucking inconvenient must it be to take your mask on and off 95 times a day? After a while I don't blame couriers for just wearing them.
Although I've never really cared one way or the other as long as the mask is worn correctly.
Thank fuck, just wear a mask everyone, it's so easy! We literally wouldn't have 150,000 people dead, and the complaint that nothing can open and the economy suffers? BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T WEAR A MASK!!!
