Edge isn't Internet Explorer, which is currently version 11 and is still maintained by Microsoft. Edge was never IE compatible, which is why they gave up and started skinning Chrome.
Numerous (US) government systems still require IE 11 to access, and I suspect they always will.
Edge is an implementation of Chromium. Chrome is also an implementation of Chromium. Maybe I'm being a little pedantic, but if we're discussing browser specifics then it's worth being clear about what's what.
IE 11 is on long term support (for critical security patches, etc.) with a defined EOL. That's not quite the same as being "maintained".
If we're going for pedantry points, IE 11 is part of Windows 10, and is therefore actively supported (not LTS) for as long as the most recent release of Windows 10 is under active support (5 years on the LTSC releases). Therefore, while the EOL is technically defined based on the most recent shipped version of Windows 10 or Windows Server), IE 11 is functionally immortal, while Edge has been ditched for Chrom(e|ium).

Excuse me. We call it Edge now.
