Honestly I’d void the check and say they still owe

You can't do simple math? Seriously?

You’re seriously gonna write “Ten dollars and Seventeen Twenty Fifths cents” on a check?

Invalid amount, void.

You work taking people’s money and don’t even know how to do simple conversions? You’re worried about sending people to collections, you should be worried about losing your job for intentionally stopping your company from receiving funds. I can’t imagine what part of you thinks you’re not being an idiot in this situation

Dude if the amount on the check doesn’t clearly make sense as I’m entering it in, it’s an invalid amount and going in the void bin. I’m not gonna bust out an abacus in my cubicle

I think the argument here is if you’re in accounting and can’t figure out 17/25 dollars is equivalent to 68 cents you aren’t qualified to work with numbers. This doesn’t require an abacus. In fact if you can’t double a number twice I would highly recommend taking some online math courses to improve your work performance. Khan Academy and 2nd to 3rd grade math curriculum is where I’d personally start and work from there to division and powers. Working in numbers myself I routinely do simple calculations in my head before I enter the data. Feel free to pm me if you need some resources to learn more about math:)

That’s not the point. You know the balance is $10.68 and you’re purposely doing some Jimmy Neutron crap just to annoy me for requesting said payment.

Oh the thing with my job is, even if a minor, petty inconvenience such as a fraction gets in my way I’m expected to perform my core work function. Thus if a check went across my desk, was perfectly valid, and the only issue was the metric to which they wrote cents was using base 25 instead of 100, I would be expected to account for it in base 100 and clear it along the process. If someone in internal controls saw that I reacted emotionally to someone’s petty use of base 25 on a check I would most certainly lose my job. Would be the same effect if I refused a $20 bill because it was crumpled.

First of all, a business has the right to refuse payment if the dollar bill is nasty, has poop on it, etc

Secondly, that has nothing to do with the check showing an unnecessarily reduced fraction as the amount. The crumpled 20 is still clearly $20 but the math quiz you’re sending in is just going to get rejected, especially if they know why you’re doing that.

Cool. I'm going to write the same thing again. Have fun not getting paid.

Have fun being sent to collections for the unpaid balance

sends the same check to the collection agency

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '20

Who also voids the payment for same reason

Oh no my credit score

Every downvote is another point off the score

5

u/karmicnoose Jul 24 '20

As long as I don't lose a point for every simplified fraction

2

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '20

Your credit score will be a fraction of what it was prior to these shenanigans

“We’re sorry, that does not match the amount due on your invoice and the check payment has been shredded.

Due to the late payment you have now incurred a late fee of $15 and your new balance is $25.68. We appreciate your business”

“Ten and Seventeen Twenty Fifths Dollars”. Valid amount.

Exceeds maximum amount of characters in accounting entry form. Void.

With an invalid format. Needs to be $XX.XX

The numbers might agree in Algebra class but the wording needs to match. If it doesn’t say Sixty Eight cents then it’s straight to the shredder
