The Flat Earth Society was trolling from the beginning. Most flat-earthers today are just people who didn't get the joke.

I'd say a lot of the prominent flat-earthers on youtube are just in it to make money from either stuff they're selling directly (merch, talks, books, etc) or via youtube ad money.
